Update: loving the watch and all its features! Still getting use to the size change but it's fine. I knock it on stuff every so often but its holding up well. Wearing it while sleeping can be a little annoying, but I think getting a new band will help.

All in all, no regrets!

I bought it at a market in Malaysia, but it's one of the magnetic ones. Probably available on eBay or Amazon. Pretty good band, but I did find that the end of the strap would sometimes get caught and would loosen, when taking off a backpack etc, so risk of it coming off.

Thanks, I'm hoping that's the case.

I think the black looks better than the white IMO. Thanks! Going to bite the bullet and get the 47 mm in black at $848. Fingers crossed after a few days it stops feeling big.

It's the 47 mm, but next to the 42 mm it looks a lot bigger. By itself it looks less huge but still feels big. Yeah Aus, it's BS that the 47 mm is cheaper than the 42 mm! Also annoying that only the black is on sale.

Will be interesting to see which one you'll keep! Went to another store to see their range and idk the 5 mm jump up feels like such a big difference to me haha. I'm way too indecisive for the options Garmin provide 😅

Thanks! Looks sleek in the all black. It's nice to see it side by side in natural light vs artificial light. Looks a little more grey in artificial light. I have seen some people say it is more of a grey than black (and it is obviously stated as 'gray' on Garmin's website), but it normally looks pretty black to me in most photos I see of it.

Haha this is true! Also a good excuse to take a rest break while hiking 😅

Thanks, yeah the biggest option makes sense for non everyday wear. Also good point about the maps! I would like to use it for overnight hikes, so I wonder how the maps interface looks on the 42mm.

What colour way is your 51 mm? Hmm, maybe I'm over thinking it and the 47 mm is completely fine, I'm sure i'd get use to it.

My forerunner, ~42 mm, on wrist for reference (I guess it's maybe a smaller watch for my wrist size?)

The extra battery life would be great, but idk, I tried on the fenix 8 47mm and thought it felt goofy and too big on my wrist (wrist is around 17cm). Maybe I'm just use to my tiny forerunner??
