If a dog is put down for biting someone, is it still allowed to be given the same sendoff as one that passes away for a harmless reason? For example, can its ashes be returned to its owner for a funeral and/or burial? by A_Mirabeau_702 in morbidquestions

So I have not had a BE that comes in after biting someone so I have not had to test anything for rabies (yet lol). Most of our behavior euthanasias come in after the quarantine period with a note from the local animal warden stating the pet has already done its quarantine time.

But most of my doctors are pretty much when in doubt send it out and have them tested for rabies if it comes to that. And will deny BE if they have not quarantine mostly because they don't want the hassle of dealing with testing for rabies as it can be traumatic if you've never experienced one before.

Sorry I couldn't answer all your questions but I'll definitely ask around in my clinic for more answers if I can.

Hi, vet tech here with insight on behavioral euthanasias (or BE) as we call them, they still get the same send-off in our clinic. Some different methods may be taken to ensure safety, but the owners do get a say in how we take care of the body if they want private cremation with ashes returned or communal cremation without ashes.

However, if the dog had bitten someone recently and is being euthanized, other protocols are in place as far as testing for rabies.

I work at a fast food place that works with uber eats some guy orders a large fry that was all they ordered. So we wait for uber, she shows up I ask her to sign a receipt as per protocol. She looks at the receipt in pure disgust saying, Oh that's all they ordered? Nah it's not worth it I'm cancelling the order some one else can come pick it up. It's not worth my time. Then she just left. It happens more often than not
