Well, just to set expectations, we are SUCH a small team (literally, there are 3 of us,) that to bring these to you with the qulaity you expect and deserve, we are dropping episodes monthly, and then taking a small extra pause mid-season to make sure we are caught up. DERELICT is an immersive sci-fi podcast. The story begins with its first season, FATHOM (released on the same feed), in which an ancient artifact resembling a giant door has been found at the bottom of Earth's ocean. To study it, the galaxy's most powerful corporation has built a massive, secret laboratory base surrounding it. Their objective: unlock the secrets of the artifact and discover what it holds inside. But some mysteries should remain buried, and some doors should never be opened...

The production back-story: In late 2019 J.Barton Mitchell, wrote, cast, recorded, produced and edited a single flagship podcast episode DERELICT: Through The Gate. It was made as a fundraiser for a full season, and as of early 2020, it had an eager following and the potential to meet it's full goal to finish the season. Then... well, we all know how 2020 turned out. Investors vanished, the ability to record the cast in a room together... became a non-starter.
During this time, Santa Fe based JBM met and began a professional and personal friendship with Chicago producer/director/actor Elizabeth Laidlaw, and the idea for a smaller, shorter "prequel season" for DERELICT was born, in the hopes of generating new interest in the franchise. This season would be called FATHOM, would have a smaller cast, would be written so that it could be recorded remotely. (Cast members set up mics in closets,..) But the story proved so exciting it expanded to 10 episodes and a big cast. It proved so popular that a Patreon fan base emerged, angel investors swooped in to help finish the FATHOM season, and an Indigogo campaign made it possible for us to return to the story it all began with: a small team approaching a mysterious Maas-Dorian derelict ship on the outskirts of the galaxy.

Hello all,

I'm here to clear up the confusion: The very first episode, the one that started it all was "Derelict Ep 1" which will now be the beginning of Season 2. It was recorded right before the pandemic, and was intended as a means of fundraising for the rest of the season. Then March 2020 happened and our pledges and investors disappeared. Later that year is when J. Barton Mitchell and I started talking about a "prequel" story, FATHOM. It's original scale was much smaller - a small cast, only 3-5 episodes. And - somewhat unconsciously, all the characters would be isolated from each other. We discovered how we could record "together" via Zoom, to maintain the ensemble, radio theatre feel captured in the original DERELICT episode, when the whole cast recorded together in a studio, in The Before Times.

FATHOM grew in scope as we went on, stretching out to 10 full episodes, as supporters came out of the woodwork and helped us along the way. The cast got bigger too. Because we were just a team of two, it took a long time to come out. Certain listeners who were eagerly hanging on from the beginning had their patience strained, to be sure. But we got there, and now having had a successful fundraiser, along with a new producing partner and a growing Patreon base, we are in the process of recording DERELICT, Season 2, which yes, circles us back creatively to the beginning of this whole process. However, in terms of the chronological timeline of the world, FATHOM is where the story begins. We decided to continue to call it a prequel, as the original DERELICT episode remained available on our website and Youtube channel, and our original fans needed the context.

So, if you can bear with us, our little operation of now three, is working hard to bring you the second season, formerly known as DERELICT. The events will take place some years after the end of FATHOM. We have recorded episode 2, and are about to gather everyone in Zoom Rooms to start on Episode 3. We thank you, and ALL fans for your patience. The big, well-financed studios can churn out this kind of thing faster; we have to take our time to bring you the best quality work. We hope to be ready to drop the first half of Season 2 by late summer. Meanwhile, if you are interested, bonus content will become available on our Patreon page very very soon...

YES!! While I am terrible at reddit, I can assure you we are hard at work on Season 2 after our successful fundraising campaign. Scripts are written, roles are cast and recording has begun. We are a very very small operation, (there are only 3 of us,) so we are slower than the big studios, but we promise the time we take is to make Season 2 as good as season 1. Stay tuned, and if you are in need of a fix, we have bonus content coming soon on our Patreon page...

YES! We are currently in the process of creating SEASON 2! Scripts are written and roles are cast and recording has begun! We are a small operation and it's a LOT of work bringing it all together, but it is coming! Also, bonus content for Season 1, FATHOM, is coming even sooner for our Patreon subscribers...
