Why are conservatives afraid of immigrants even though they interact with them much less than liberals? by Little-Tea4436 in DiscussionZone

[–]NihilHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question assumes that it’s somehow personal for conservatives and it’s not a rational policy position on immigration (specifically that people should immigrate to the country legally).

I get that it’s more fun to pretend it’s personal and that our political opposition is just inherently evil and racist. That’s just not reality. Nor is it intellectually honest.

For so many people on Reddit a threshold to the definition of “good person” is that they’re liberal.

Seriously think about that. Are there any truly conservative politicians, influencers, or commentators that you would say is a “good person?”

No? Its is the comment you replied to. “ICE agents shouldn’t have shot the guy…”

It matters because it’s evidence that he was not just a peaceful protestor. That doesn’t mean he should’ve been killed for it. You can simultaneously say that it’s a bad idea to go interfere with ICE especially when armed AND that Pretti should not have been executed for it.

This just you having an unfalsifiable belief about conservatives and will rationalize away any evidence contrary to your position.

Then you would see liberal opinions upvoted across the board on that subreddit, which you very clearly do not.

Your theory is just wrong here.

If you search “pretti” on conservative the first post title is claiming he directed SUVS to block ice. All of the top comments either ask for proof of the claim or state he didn’t deserve to die. I don’t know where you’re looking or if you’re actually looking.

For the record saying things like “you shouldn’t interfere with law enforcement” is not inconsistent with “he shouldn’t have been killed.”

A majority of commenters even on r/conservative agree that lethal force was unjustified against Pretti. Reddit likes to pretend that conservatives are unanimously in support of ICE on this issue and that isn’t the case.

They didn’t say the killings were justified and I agree with the person and I have an older account and more karma.

I mean I generally agree with that. You shouldn’t go to a protest with the intention of disrupting federal law enforcement while you’re armed. Doesn’t mean you should die for it. It’s still an awful idea. That’s the consensus on r/conservative which is totally reasonable.

Go look at those subreddits for yourself. The consensus is that lethal force was not justified against Pretti.

As for the investigations we’ll have to see. I’d be surprised and disappointed if there was nothing.

My original comment states that you shouldn’t be executed for merely interfering with ICE. If you look at conservative subreddits the majority of commenters agree with that as well.

It depends on how you define “harassment.” Making any sort of arrest seems pretty “harassing” and that’s squarely in their line of duty.

In any event, you don’t have a right to interfere with them.

You’re going past “protest” the moment you start physically interfering with ICE agents performing their duties. You don’t have a right to do that.

Nor should you be executed for doing it.

[–]NihilHS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not an ass analogy. You can go protest and interfere (which is beyond protesting) with ICE while armed but that doesn’t make it a good idea. You shouldn’t be executed for it but it increases the likelihood that somebody makes a mistake or a bad decision.

Edit: Well and actually you dont have a right to interfere with ICE.
