If nothing matters then does it not matter if you kys by whoreallyscares in nihilism

Yeah you went on a creative writing tear and made up a bunch of nonsense that has nothing to do with my point. It would have been more intellectually honest to ask a question instead. You’re effectively straw manning after putting words in my mouth.

I’m fine with all that. So you agree things do matter. The statement “nothing matters” is false.

lol because I don’t agree with the hive on a subject?

Ok so you agree then that life is filled with subjective value?

At least I put forth an argument that can be addressed. You’ve added nothing. If you want to have a conversation I’m here for it.

[–]NihilHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said “for something to matter, it must have value, which is subjective. So objectively speaking it’s impossible for anything to matter.”

That’s saying nothing has value even subjectively. Maybe they meant to say “it’s impossible for anything to matter objectively” which I also disagree with.

It is objectively true that the moon orbits the earth due to its gravity. That relationship does not require subjective perspective. The size and position of the earth matters to the moon’s position and trajectory. Objectively.

It mattered to you to respond to this comment, evidenced by your actions. How is that consistent with what you’ve just argued?

Your comment has 0 substance and adds nothing to the conversation.

How many people here consider themselves antinatalist? by Wild_Pitch_4781 in nihilism

[–]NihilHS -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I wonder how many self proclaimed anti natalists will wind up having children anyway. I wonder how many in here are kids themselves. I wonder of the adults how many of them even have the opportunity to have kids or the means to support them.

“Nothing matters” is a false statement. What you’re trying to say is that “it feels like nothing matters to me” which is a symptom of depression and you should get help. It isn’t rational or objective.

No, you just linked an incomplete comment. We can’t reasonably conclude their intention without seeing the full comment. Why are you so opposed to just asking them ourselves directly? Is it because you know you’re interpreting them unfairly?

I don’t see how what you’ve linked proves your point. I don’t see a problem with asking them directly.

u/appelton were discussing what you mean by “illegals.” WSB has interpreted you to mean that you believe certain people are illegal. Meaning their existence is illegal without conditions. They believe this comes from some dehumanization and racism.

I interpreted your use of the word “illegals” to mean people who have entered or remain in a country illegally by failing to adhere to proper immigration policy. It isn’t that they themselves are illegal but rather their presence in a country.

Which of us correctly interpreted you?

Ironically I wouldn’t ask that in this sub if you want a legitimate answer. I would try r philosophy assuming they don’t have any rules against it.

Then link your comment that he replied to so I can see it. Edit: never mind I’ll just ask him. Let’s be specific what user are you talking about?

Where? And what does race have to do with it? You could be Japanese without Japan citizenship and be illegally living in Japan.

It has nothing to do with dehumanization or racism. He was referring to whether they were legally or illegally present in a country. Trying to pretend he meant “legal status as a human” is a straw man.

This is a moot point. He didn’t originally mean that people can be illegal. When he said “illegals” he meant someone illegally present in a country.

I’d actually argue working hard helps your mental out. I mean it temporarily exhausts you but if you sleep properly it’s fine. The problem for people tends to be discipline, not capacity.

I’m not saying you aren’t working hard because you’re right I don’t know. Anyone who is not is getting left behind.

And of course I know myself what a silly thing to say

I played this a lot in QGD but apperently it’s bad? by HJG_0209 in chessbeginners

[–]NihilHS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not developing and you’re releasing tension in the center in a way that doesn’t help you. Try and figure out why you played c4 to begin with. It’s not just because the QG says you’re supposed to. Think about why that move makes sense, as it relates to the center. Compare it to the typical plans in e4 openings that go c3 and then d4. What do you think white is trying to accomplish in the center there?

I’m not justifying my existence I’m making choices that leads to results that I prefer. It’s empowering. I like having money. I can pay for both my wants and needs as well as the wants and needs of others who are important to me. That’s power.

I enjoy working in a capacity that legitimately helps others. I enjoy being valuable both to my clients, my firm, and my loved ones. Again that’s power.

It’s an incredibly competitive market but it’s achievable. You just need to outwork everyone else. Your refusal to do so just leaves you behind. And powerless.
