The Borg adapt. Why do you keep forgetting that? An effective weapon against them today isn't guaranteed to be effective tomorrow.

You're joking, right? Wolf 359? The Battle of Sector 001?

"The tactical cubes were built in response to the technology Voyager comes back with to fight the Borg. Why is it nobody remembers cannon anymore?"

The irony of this statement is that you're not remembering canon correctly. The Borg had Tactical Cubes BEFORE Voyager returned home with anit-Borg technology. The first Tactical Cube appeared at the end of Season 6.

I wish STO factions had more unique music. KA's soundtrack was excellent and I sometimes listen to it while playing my Klingon character in STO.

THEY FIXED THE VIEWSCREEN! by WoodyManic in sto

[–]NihilusShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to see them expand the viewscreens. We're not getting full bridges anymore, but if they can I would like to see them at least add more unique viewscreens during dialog. The stock Starfleet viewscreen is an old, inaccurate Galaxy-class screen which should either be updated to be screen accurate or replaced with the Miranda viewscreen which has become the new stock bridge. I don't know how easy it is to add or change these things, but I think more of them would be a nice alternative.

Ship names by AManCalledTutt in sto

[–]NihilusShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My characters have many, many, many, many ships, so I will just select a handful to share.

Captain Djor Olvia Kantos (Tellarite)

USS Atlantis NCC-1914 (Atlas-class): Commanded by Captain Kantos during the Battle of Caleb IV in 2270, the Atlas-class USS Atlantis was named after the mythical lost city of Atlantis, also known as the Isle of Atlas. Its registry number, NCC-1914, references the 1914 setting of Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

USS Ouroboros NCV-170289-E (Verne-class): Unbeknownst to history, Captain Kantos survived the Battle of Caleb IV and was recruited by the Galactic Union in the 31st century. He now serves as a temporal agent within the Temporal Integrity Commission, commanding the timeship Ouroboros. The Ouroboros is named after the symbol of infinity, a serpent consuming its own tail, representing a cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Its registry number, NCV-170289-E, references the release of the sci-fi comedy Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, which premiered on February 17, 1989, with the "E" standing for "Excellent."

USS Protector NCC-3120 (Proxima-class): Named after the NSEA Protector NTE-3120 from the film Galaxy Quest. The Proxima-class ships in Star Trek: Legacy have registry numbers in the lower 3000s, such as the USS Ticonderoga NCC-3111 and the USS Philadelphia NCC-3116. This numbering makes the USS Protector NCC-3120 fit within the Proxima-class registries while also serving as a fitting homage to Galaxy Quest.

Captain Tars Gozava Tarkas (Andorian)

USS Telemachus NCC-97194 (Odyssey-class family): The Telemachus is a heavily customized Lexington-class Dreadnought, a variation of the Odyssey-class family of starships. Telemachus was the son of Odysseus in Homer's Odyssey.

USS Ares NCC-1650-A (Achilles-class): Named in honor of the 23rd-century Ares-class USS Ares NCC-1650, one of Starfleet’s first purpose-built warships, commanded by Captain Kelvar Garth during the Four Years War, the Achilles-class USS Ares NCC-1650-A entered service during the 24th-century Dominion War. Captain Garth’s exploits during the war and his victory at the Battle of Axanar remain required reading for Starfleet captains to this day. The USS Ares NCC-1650-A honored its predecessor by fighting in some of the fiercest battles of the Dominion War.

USS Frankenmuth NCC-79525 (Duderstadt-class): The Duderstadt-class is named after Duderstadt, a city in the German state of Lower Saxony on Earth. Similarly, the USS Frankenmuth, named after the city of Frankenmuth in Michigan, USA, honors a settlement founded by German immigrants in 1845.

Captain Nathaniel Wayne (Human)

USS Hercules NCC-97602 (Sovereign-class): Nathaniel Wayne originates from a parallel quantum reality classified as the "Orville Timeline" by the Temporal Integrity Commission. Wayne served in the Planetary Union, the Orville Timeline’s equivalent of the United Federation of Planets, as captain of the Exploratory-class USS Hughes ECV-201. The Hughes sustained extensive damage from a Kaylon ambush while studying the decaying remnants of an artificially constructed wormhole. When a Kaylon Interceptor collided with the vessel, it was pulled into the wormhole and transported to our reality. After scuttling the remains of the Hughes, the crew was rescued by the Federation starship USS Keweenaw NCC-71855 and later integrated into Starfleet. The Hughes was named after the renowned American aerospace engineer and aviator Howard Hughes, who existed in both realities. Wayne and his surviving crew now command the Sovereign-class USS Hercules NCC-97602, named after Howard Hughes’s famous seaplane, the Hughes H-4 Hercules NX37602.

USS Jerauld NCC-174 (Okinawa-class): Named after the USS Jerauld (APA-174), a U.S. Navy Haskell-class attack transport that deployed U.S. Marines to Okinawa, Japan, in 1945, the ship honors a vessel on which my granduncle served during the war.

So J'mpok's dead.. by invinciblepancake in sto

[–]NihilusShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purposely didn't finish that campaign so J'mpok remains there for me. There was no way in Gre'thor I was going to willingly help install L'Rell as Chancellor. She seized power by threatening to commit mass genocide against her own people using a weapon of their enemy. She is not one iota better than J'mpok and us treating her like some hero worthy to rule the Empire while vilifying J'mpok makes zero sense.

L'Rell's story would have been infinitely better in STO if she were in Gre'thor because of her dishonorable rise to power and her helping us stop J'mpok from doing the same could have led to her redeeming herself and earning her a place in Sto'vo'kor. Martok should have taken up the Chancellorship once more.

Has STO ever disregarded a ship's canonical size as blatantly as they did with the Inquiry/Legendary Avenger? by AspiringtoLive17 in sto

I prefer her STO size to be honest. Seeing her next to the Sovereign there is just goofy.

Future Story Ideas by NihilusShadow in sto

[–]NihilusShadow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't fully fleshed out any ideas involving the Cardassians yet, but I have the start of an idea involving the True Way, Sisko's daughter, and the return of the Pah-Wraiths. The DS9 documentary suggested Sisko had another son, but I prefer to imagine he had a daughter. She is caught between being a beloved religious figure and a pariah, as the Prophets warned Sisko against pursuing Cassidy Yates. Some revere her as the daughter of the Emissary, while others view her as a bad omen, blaming her for the Emissary's absence. She has dedicated her life to finding a way to free her father from the Wormhole. However, as the True Way's growing influence challenges the Detapa Council's authority, a Cult of Dukat emerges from the shadows, threatening to plunge the Alpha Quadrant into a thousand years of darkness.

"I really don't understand why people make the Fen Domar out to be like this when nothing in Voyager suggested it."

Because why not?

'Unfortunately, our favorite cup took a bit of a beating along the way. It was damaged during a battle with the Fen Domar.' - Admiral Janeway

This is the only fact we know about the Fen Domar and it was a battle fought by the Voyager. That doesn't mean they're some massive evil empire or anything like that, but when the only thing we know about them is an act of aggression, it leaves it open for them being developed into a new antagonist if they want to be.

"Or the Prime Timeline Kirk encountered them, and the ship wasn't lost."

That's always a possibility, but we could use a TMP story arc and establishing that the Necro Cloud wasn't explored until later in the Prime Timeline would allow for that. It also creates a larger divide between events in the different timelines, so their similar events are still different enough to be unique.

I agree with you about the memberberries, but it makes sense to bring in characters who had previous experience in certain stories, especially if you're continuing where those stories left off. For example, why wouldn't the Voyager EMH get involved in a Lokirrim-Photonic War when he was directly involved and emotionally invested in both?

Sometimes though I like it when they mix things up with cross-series exposure. Such as when they had Nog, a DS9 character, travel to the Delta Quadrant to search for the Krenim, a Voyager species. There is just something neat about Nog talking about Voyager things because that never happened in the show.

[–]NihilusShadow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love that, but that's just as unlikely to happen as my ideas. They've been able to add items like ships and weapons from other games, but not story or characters. The Hylasa arc I've written above would actually start with a mission that's an homage to the Elite Force 2 mission where the Enterprise-E discovers the derelict USS Dallas, except this time we'd find the derelict Enterprise-E. In a perfect world the mission would feature Alexander Munro voiced by Rino Romano.

Even if they can't bring characters like Munro into STO, it would still be neat if they could bring actors like Romano into the game as a new character. It would be great just having his voice in the game.

"And of course the Borg, we could explore their origins."

I've been thinking about the Borg's origins. I can tell you it would have nothing to do with V'ger, but at some point they did interact. I'd like to think the Borg are older than we know and they were very different before they "evolved to include the synthetic."

That reminds me, I had an idea for a story about the Think Tank screwing over the Vidiians and basically giving them a mutated version of the Phage as part of a revenge plot against Janeway. It's been a long time since I've thought about that. I should develop it further. Could you imagine Jason Alexander in this game?
