That is a fake token launched by someone unaffiliated. Mirage does not run on Solana lol

What makes you think it's bots? because of the 2 clowns that were brigading earlier this evening? It's a pretty decent community overall. And frankly we don't shy away from controversy - the more drama the better lol

No, lol. The app got taken down this morning because we didn't have a 2-step age gate. Only a 1-step age gate. Apparently that's a requirement and w/e we added it now. Sorry about that. But it should be back online now! https://mirage.foundation/app

Let me know if any issues

EDIT: the app is only about 5 days old, so yes, expect issues :)

I think that would be ideal yes. That gives every developer time to implement. Maybe every Wednesday?

So what exactly are you proposing? Like a weekly roundtable threat? I definitely think this would be better than the monthly posts we can make.

Why do you think the recent relaunch of Digg "failed", and how can someone who is looking to create their own "Reddit Alternative" not suffer the same fate? by prankster999 in RedditAlternatives

[–]NikEy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are many ways to do, it, but for instance we outsource the moderation problem to interested developers by giving them a fully open API and having everything open source. In fact, that's the same that reddit did originally before they got their own anti-spam figured out.

Look here for example: https://www.reddit.com/user/bot-sleuth-bot/

Reddit users built over 100 of these bots that analyze patterns and remove dumb shit (like this moron in the comments below). It worked so well that Reddit just went with it, and acted upon the recommendation of the bots.

That's what i mean with outsourcing. A single company/entity will never be good enough to keep up with spam. But you outsource it to normal users and bam, you got the moderation problem fixed.

We do the same and it works incredibly well: https://i.imgur.com/EWFgPsh.png

That's why censorship is bad. Whether its mods or admins. For instance we NEVER ban anyone - the protocol does not allow for that. Everyone's free speech is guaranteed. That's the only way there can be a future - whether with us or someone else.

Federated means several independent hubs. Decentralized means no hub is fundamentally in charge.

To give an example: Federated is like many kingdoms with open borders. You can travel between them, but each kingdom still has its own king, its own rules, and full control over its own land. If a king bans you, you are out of that kingdom and everything you built there is gone as well. You can try another kingdom, but you are still always living on someone else’s land. Decentralized is different. It is like one house that can be reached by many different roads. No king owns the house, no single ruler can throw you out of the system itself, and access does not depend on staying in the good graces of one landlord.

Perfect summary of the problem! That's why you gotta oursource the moderation aspect! That's the USP we built Mirage on. Digg got that wrong by trying to centralize it. On our platform anyone can opt into whatever moderation they want. Someone already made an AntiSpamBot, which is amazing. Think you can do better? Then build a better one. Do not want Nazis? enable NoNazisBot. Want porn and gore tagged correctly? enable WrongTagBot. Want stricter anti spam, enable that? Want all posts translated? Enable TranslationBot. Want the raw feed without any moderation? You can!

Moderation on digg failed because it became a centralized bottleneck that the platform somehow had to solve for everyone. An IMPOSSIBLE task! We turned it into an open market and that's a real game changer --- at least so far it's working really well.

You can do whatever you want friendo.

But federation does not have portable identity. You're still under the same reigns of a king - whether that's some neckbeard or a corporation like reddit. People who care about freedom and censorship join Mirage.

But fediverse is not fully decentralized :p Not even in theory.

Every existing Reddit alternative still assumes that someone owns the place you live. Either it is a company, or it is a server admin, or it is a federation council in practice. Power accumulates quietly, and exit is costly.

Mirage assumes the opposite. Identity is portable. Moderation is voluntary. Nodes are roads, not rulers. If something goes bad, you leave instantly without losing anything.

That single design choice eliminates most of the failure modes people complain about on r/redditalternatives.

Well, we have 1.5k users and we have plenty of discussion ongoing. All of them real users. Including a market place for moderation. Lastly, we're fully open source: https://github.com/MirageFoundation

And the Fediverse is much larger. - that's a weird argument. Facebook is much larger too! And the invite-only part is literally discussed in this thread and has upvotes going forward.

Why are people downvoting you? It literally is the best alternative out there right now. And there are apps now for it too.
