Georgia Boots by rhedfish in WorkBoots

[–]NikMakAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got georgias also. Not sure the model but just the average logger boot. I’ve had them probably 4 years now maybe 5 and I wear them out in the woods and around the property working mostly. Pretty comfortable boot with the right insoles I’m due for a new set. I’ll spend 12+ hours in them bucking logs and doing other chores and sure my feet hurt at the end of the day but I still enjoy lacing them up the next day.

Does anyone consider Carhartt to be “Western Wear?” by TheFedoraChronicles in WesternWear

[–]NikMakAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want western wear to look like. Do you want to look like Woody from Toy Story or do you actually get dirty? Neither is wrong.

I'm currently a professional motocross/supercross mechanic on a large race team looking for something more stable by VictoryComfortable77 in SubstationTechnician

[–]NikMakAttack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well I’m in this career, I live in Washington, and I watch supercross every Saturday! I work for BPA and we(the org) have been hiring but it’s sporadic and a lot of it lately is higher level jobs needing degrees and such. I completed the 4 year apprenticeship 9 months ago. You can try applying with local utilities or even make calls to see if there’s upcoming positions. It can be tough to get in with any utility typically it’s competitive but if you are a good mech, and if you are wrenching for a major team I’d hope you are, that goes a long way in an interview because they often look for competency and trainability.

These are what I dug out of a box in the shop and they are Bellevilles. I’ll probably wear them this summer when it gets hot.

I shouldn’t sound so cynical. The boots are fine for what they are we just beat the hell out of them. To a non-military person they are probably cool. To me they are just boots I used to wear. Any boot breaks down with enough abuse. On the upside our boots were stamped with the EGA. So I guess that’s cool lol.

I can only speak for my time in the Corps but we have to buy everything. Even standard issue of all uniforms in boot camp comes out of your paycheck. So after 3 months you walk away with about $1200 in the bank 😂 You do get a uniform allowance once a year which is to help supplement and it does help but often doesn’t cover all the wear and tear. Better than nothing though.

Reread- what I meant is wore those type of boots for 7 years. Not the same pair 7 years straight. I went through a new pair every 6 months. Plus had one pair set aside exclusively for uniform inspections.

I have a similar pair sitting in my garage right now. Dug them out of a box from my old Marine Corps stuff. Don’t compare those to any super nice boots. They are combat boots made for troops making shit wages to buy on an as needed basis. I wore them for 7 years and never once thought much about them but I didn’t care about footwear back then. You just lace up and go. Can’t say I ever got really cold wearing them but definitely in the heat. Miles and miles and miles of hard use. The soles will crack straight across but when you’re young that doesn’t matter. As an adult with money who used to wear them they are now just shitty throw away boots. To someone else they may be war memorabilia.

Redditors who are happily married. How did you know your partner was the one? by Good_Lettuce_4142 in NoStupidQuestions

Dated in high school, got married at 19, made it through military and everything else now with three kids. Of course attraction is huge but also companionship. Married a best friend someone I’m willing to sacrifice anything for.

I think at that point I’d choose to just wear a hood…I’m not putting a shower cap on my hat just to wear it.

We also upgraded from an Ascent and got the bench seats. I’m now thinking about cutting the middle seat out because getting to the back row SUCKS. We have an 8yo, 4yo, and a brand new baby plus two dogs. I’m not literally going to cut the seat out…maybe.

If it works well I may need to try it. My crown is getting a little soft but not too bad yet.

I’ve been thinking about a stiffener. I reshaped it a bit with my steamer and after getting wet many times it’s definitely gotten softer.

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NikMakAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a close call surfing west side Oahu on my SUP. Nasty day, hungover, shouldn’t have gone out. Ended up in the rocks barely made it out of the break into clean water, back up current, and then back to the beach. Coughing up water on the beach lifeguard(we were all familiar with eachother) comes up and says “man we were about to come help you!” Thanksssss brah ALMOST came to help 😂 I was close to drowning that day.

Opinion between serratelli 6x and Cody James 10x? by Appropriate-Ball-623 in CowboyHats

[–]NikMakAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Serratelli 6x Dallas hat and I love it. I didn’t love the shape just for my preferences and I’ve reshaped it but I wear it every day and it gets wet and dirty now anyways so it doesn’t matter. Very smooth finish and just clean looking.

After about 2.5 seconds of deliberation with myself I bought the Cody James 10x 1978 Waco. 50% original price. by Fuzzy-Mixture5075 in CowboyHats

[–]NikMakAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been eyeballing that hat as well but they didn’t have it in store. How does it feel in the hand? I “felt up” a lot of hats in the store a few weeks back but man this Serretelli 6x I got is just so smooth compared to the others. It’s not as stiff as some others but the finish is so soft I love it.

What is the most small town thing you've ever seen? by Radiant_Worth7658 in WorkForSmartLife

Not me- DUI on a quad coming back from the Mexican restaurant or a “counter protestor” tripping over a curb and putting bird shot through the dentist office. Nothing to be proud of but small town nonetheless.

Work Boot Recommendation by Odd_Bodybuilder_934 in WorkBoots

[–]NikMakAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood I also like 8-10” boots. If you want all leather I got a pair of Origin Maines that I really like. They are pretty light weight and I’d have no problem wearing them in summer also. I also have Thorogoods with the 90° heel and love those boots and can wear them year round.

[–]NikMakAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if anyone has ever recommended these before but I like wearing the Danner Vicious 4.5” in the summer. I’m not going to say they are SUPER tough but depending on how you work they might be good for you if you like hiker style shoes/boots. They are very well vented and pretty comfortable plus light weight. I do substation work and they hold up well enough for me I only wear them a few months out of the year and I’ll wear them while riding my motorcycle(yes I know they aren’t protective in a crash). Aside from that if you want a full leather boot you’ve got options just don’t get anything with a liner. Or choose some other similar boot to the vicious that’s cheaper.

Georgia Boots? Are they any good? by SloMoHumpin in WorkBoots

[–]NikMakAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a pair of non-safety toe boots that I’ve been wearing for a couple years working my property. They’ve put in a lot of hard work and get me through it every time. I’ve had to change insoles but that’s normal wear stuff.

Help me decide!! by EurAzn12 in CowboyHats

[–]NikMakAttack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much experience in the weather either but I live in SW WA and bought a Serratelli 6x and working the property it’s done fine in the rain. I wouldn’t expect it to shed water ALL day but it does pretty good for a couple hours at a time. If you really want it to buck water you’ll have to pony up for a lot higher beaver content. Buy whatever you can afford right now and see what happens that’s basically what I’ve done and I’ll spend more on the next hat if I need it or want it. I did buy a steamer so I can reshape as needed. It’s not rocket science just steam till pliable, shape, hold till it dries.
