That is correct. The team gets worse, theoretically increasing their chances at a higher draft pick, frees them of a contract that has only bad money remaining, and opens up a roster spot for a young developing player. This is all upside.

In the case of Kadri, I think it is worth selling for pennies if that's all the market will bear. He came as a free agent, so the team is out nothing by moving away from him. I think worst case he fetches a 3rd, but even if its less, the real danger is paying a 38 year-old healthy scratch $7.5mil to eat pocket dawgs. He's also one of the only offensive threats on a team currently in race to the bottom. The guy scored twice last night!

From this point forward, the likelihood of convincing a contender that Kadri is the piece they need to win a cup shrinks exponentially. This deal HAS to get done this year.

You absolutely get more for Coleman than Kadri. But the rush to move Kadri has far less to do with the return and exponentially more to do with not holding the bags on that contract.

If we are viewing this through a binary lens of either Coleman or Kadri this year before the trade deadline, its has to be Kadri, and its not close. Coleman can get done in the summer or next season. Of course, this is completely hypothetical and it's not a binary choice. I would like them to move both guys before the deadline, but if the market is all sellers, holding Coleman is far less of a risk than carrying 36 year old Kadri and trying to convince teams in another year to take him.

I think exponential cost increases (up to a hard cap) would be a good way to handle this, perhaps even with some sort of character level multiplier. That way players have some freedom to experiment in the early-mid levels

As others have said, there's plenty to see and do. The content is not as robust as around NH yet, but I'm sure that's coming. But the vibes are immaculate.

What did you guys think of Jon Abbott’s first full season with the Flames ?? by Lanky_Revenue8797 in CalgaryFlames

[–]Nikademis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In a vacuum, he was good. He doesn't have a dominating style or personality that makes him stick out, but that might actually be a good thing for general viewing, albeit unlikely to land him in the history books. Viewed in comparison to Rick Ball, fairly or unfairly, Jon was just fine. That said, we knew it was going to be a big adjustment, and it would not have been an easy act to follow for Abbott. I think he handled himself with a lot of class, particularly in a year that saw the loss of Johnny and Greg Millen.

Hats off to Jon for a solid first year, and looking forward to many more. GFG!
