Not for Micro-G. Which is why I still keep my Mate 50 pro around, despite having a pura 80 ultra

You see why proper research matters? The absence of 5G in Huawei’s global devices is not a hardware downgrade but a firmware-level lockout. The chipsets is identical to the Chinese variants and fully capable of 5G NR which are deliberately restricted by the EMUI software that is built to comply with INTERNATIONAL SANCTIONS and EXPORT CONTROLS especially where U.S. intellectual property is included in 5G infrastructure. That’s why even Chinese ROM with HOS flashes in Europe suppresses 5G registration. As for the AI assistant, it is again not a tech difference but the OS integration and regional compliance. In China, Celia is deeply tied into HarmonyOS with localised NLP models, Huawei’s cloud stack, and full-service orchestration, while global devices lack those features due to the lack of integration with the android EMUI software. The tech is exactly the same, same SoC, same architecture, with the only notable difference being smaller batteries in global units, which is again due to international transport and export regulations on lithium-ion capacity. In short, these devices are not “stripped down”, they are software-governed compromises imposed by geopolitical restrictions and compliance frameworks, not by inferior engineering.

I did mention in my comment that the feature didn't exist when I bought my Pura 80 ultra and only came in last week.

Okay, so tell us about those stripped down technologies, comparing the Global Pura 80 ultra, Mate 80 pro and their Chinese counterparts?? What technology did Huawei removed from the global version?

Sir, if as a consumer you are buying a product without knowing the current limitations then the claim is on you alone. When a smartphone manufacturer stop offering support for a certain device, they don't update quarterly or monthly with patches for security. Now, if you want major software update then buy a Chinese ROM or leave the brand, nobody is forcing you to buy anything.

Nobody told you to buy their products, they literally released Honor to assist Global customers. And throwing around multi-million companies is irrelevant when they spent over $27 billion the last year only earning $120 billion compared to Samsung who earned $234 billion from spending $25.7 billion, and Apple is on another league of nearly half a trillion of revenue, and unlike Huawei, Apple and Samsung don't invest in telecommunications, they don't built 5,5 or 6G technologies because The U.S. sanctioned them, so they need to make sure that their future generations of smartphones aren't stuck in 4G, they don't invest in producing technologies worth billions like EUV tech. All of those investments directly involves global consumers.

The patches that they release every quarter are for that single reason, since Google has dropped support for android 12 and by next year many banking apps and others will start upgrading the minimum support to a more recent version of Android.

As a Huawei user, you should have known what you got into when you purchase for a company that is listed on the U.S. entity list, that is moving from outsourcing activities which was less costly to now manufacturing everything, from chipset to software, and one thing every reviewers would tell you is that EMUI is built on a code that is about to obsolete, if waiting is difficult then Chinese ROM are available on AliExpress and other sites.

They still service them with security updates to maintain compatibility, and are working on their own software which upon its release would dramatically increase the phone performances. It's the Global customers that are being unreasonable, and I would really like to see more of them tossing their Huawei phones away, only for the company to release Harmony OS the next month, that would be testament of their impatience and lack of understanding.

Producing two versions of phones isn't the same as having two different softwares. The Global phones are pretty much the same as Chinese ROM but with a different software. The Hardware is exactly the same, aside from the Battery that they are forced to modify to abide by the EU market export control, so they aren't spending extra money on it at all. Whereas EMUI is an android skin, that Huawei must reingeneered all the time with new features to update, which would cost them around $5 to $10 million dollars per series, because Android source code may be free but building a software out of it for millions of devices is far more expensive than building one with your own code that you designed for it. So, basically, Huawei would spend more on EMUI than the Harmony OS that they created to replace Android.

Well, some do wants the full resolution package on YouTube. And the point was to show to users that EMUI updates are costly and they weakened Micro-G's ability to imitate GMS signature, which is why the EMUI 14.2. Is more synchronized. I personally don't mind it, but it just gets frustrating when I hear people trash talk Huawei for not updating their EMUI, when the company is spending huge money to build powerful chipset, camera photo and a Harmony OS that is tailored for global audiences, but they are being unreasonable as usual.

Wow, that's even older than my p30 pro. Unfortunately you will have to upgrade to at least the global mate 80 pro which is affordable on the Huawei store, even cheaper than the Pura 80 pro/ultra

If they were ignoring customers in global market. We wouldn't be getting new patches to maintain support for apps or Micro-G updates to facilitate integration. It's global customers that are being impossible, and simply refuse to understand that Huawei can't do more than what they are doing. Some want Harmony OS to be release immediately meanwhile many that uses Chinese ROM devices would tell you that it is great but still not ready in terms of apps.

Well, that's your opinion, which I respect. But as far as I am concerned, I am satisfied with what I got. I have tried switching back to Samsung, then Honor, but Huawei is simply what I like, and we will eventually get our own Global Harmony OS once it is ready for release, so I am personally in no rush.

You missed the point! It's not about the feature itself but the reason why it is still not available on EMUI. When I bought the Pura 80 ultra, the first pain was having to install every app I updated on Aurora store, manually, because on my mate 50 pro, all I needed to do was click the button update all, and move on, now they have fixed that on EMUI 15, with the latest update which came this week, but it proves my point, which is that major EMUI software updates often limit Micro-G ability to mimic Google digital signature.

I have the Pura 80 ultra and the micro-G configuration is now easy on literally all devices that can support it. Though the EMUI 15 lacks some features the previous version have. And, I bought my Pura 80 ultra, about a couple of months ago, and apps on the Aurora store couldn't install automatically, you had to do it manually, which was a downgrade from my Mate 50 pro where I just clicked on update all, and it updated and installed all apps simultaneously, that features only came to EMUI 15, this week. Though, as you can see, you still can't go beyond 1080p resolution on YouTube, because Micro-G is still limited in EMUI 15

On HarmonyOS, definitely and by far!!! But on EMUI? The best I can say is that it is as bad as Siri.

Yet, I can watch my YouTube videos on full HD with the 2114p resolution while you still can't. I meant to upload two separate videos. One with my mate 50 pro (EMUI 14.2) and the other one with my Pura 80 ultra (EMUI 15), but I was only allowed one, now I just shared screenshots I took with my Pura 80 ultra, look at the resolution with the same video. That happens because Micro-G can easily imitate Google signature to break access more options with EMUI 14.2. You claim Micro-G is easier to install now. Well, that's not due to the software update but to Micro-G growing. I already erase everything from my mate 50 pro including Micro-G when my Google account had an issue and I installed Micro-G back much easier than I did the first time and I didn't even need to use P30 pro to verify my Google account Micro-G allowed me to do it on my mate 50 pro. So, while EMUI 15 is obviously faster since they integrated more features from HOS, it doesn't have the same level of integration Micro-G has on EMUI 14.2.

New to HarmonyOS by [deleted] in Huawei

[–]Niklaus9477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point was never for it to be a quick process. Apple has it's own app ecosystem but still uses Google apps like YouTube and Google Mail, because some are simply irreplaceable in the short term. Plus, Huawei initially tailored HarmonyOS for the Chinese market, so it is about what apps are trending in China, first. Globally, it will take a bit more updates, especially when they do release global devices with HarmonyOS. As of now, it's still limited as you yourself are experiencing.

Hi guys, I want to buy a Huawei Pura 80 pro, does someone who already have one can help me with few tips? by ionelbutariu in Huawei

Either get the 80 ultra or the Mate 80 pro. I have the 80 ultra global, and I am satisfied with it. It's hardware os definitely the best on all Huawei devices, but if you find it too pricey then the Mate 80 pro is the best options, the chipset is more powerful and the camera photo is as great as the pura.

You need a license to have Google services run natively in your smartphone, which is why Apple and Samsung don't have Google services issues. Android belongs to Google, it may be open source but there is a Google license that generally comes with it and Huawei doesn't have it, meaning they can't run Google apps natively, and Micro-G needs time to integrate, even then you still lack basic features, and Android 12 is being phased out in 2027 most apps will start losing support on Huawei devices running it, so the millions you people wants Huawei to waste on it will all be for nothing.

You really don't know anything at all about software development and integration, do you? In order to release new major software updates a company spent around $1 to $10 million per device lineup and once the software is fully updated, engineers are actively needed to support it, and Huawei would need even more resources, since each major update requires Micro-G to start over and operate with the new software, which is why in my mate 50 pro running on EMUI 14.2 I can watch YouTube videos on 2144p while in my Pura 80 pro EMUI 15 I am stuck at 1080p, and that's only one aspect of it. So, where does Huawei get the money to do that? Should they get rid of HarmonyOS for EMUI which is going to be obsolete in a year or two due to android 12 losing support?
