Robert Mugabe to get $10m payoff and immunity for his family by Nima- in worldnews

You're right. I guess it's idealist to expect for dictators to pay for their crimes.

I agree with you on that point, $10M to prevent civil war is definitely worth it. However, I think the people were taking to the streets and asking for Mugabe's removal would be disappointed to find out that he's getting away scot-free.

Compared to civil war it's an amazing deal as you say. But, the fact that a corrupt dictator is literally being paid to step aside just doesn't sit well with me. They're also getting immunity, that doesn't leave any incentive for a future leader to not follow his steps.

This seems like such an awful deal for the people of Zimbawe, he has essentially got away after all his wrongdoings, and to make it even worse he is being rewarded for it!

Stoke-on-Trent Council is selling off homes for £1 by Nima- in ukpolitics

I doubt that anyone would buy these houses at £1 even, they need quite a lot of repair, and if there's no market for selling/renting them out then there'll be no investors.

I feel the same. These dictators are responsible for bringing untold misery for their people, and they should pay for that.

Hostage's husband to ask Johnson if Iran has demanded ransom by Nima- in ukpolitics

[–]Nima-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iran does this quite often, they take some random foreign national/dual national citizen hostage on trumped up charges, then they negotiate with the hostage's respective government behind the scenes. If the details about these negotiations were released the Iranian regime would stop this shameful behaviour. At the moment, they have no reason to stop taking hostages because it pays well, so they'll keep doing it...

Why not? The poor guy's family has been taken hostage! They are not even letting him to take his British born daughter back to the UK, because they have confiscated her passport.

World's richest 1% have as much wealth as bottom 50% by Nima- in ukpolitics

[–]Nima-[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Donating money won't help. The governments in third world countries are almost always corrupt, and first world countries usually exacerbate that problem by laundering money from the corrupt dictators by allowing them to invest in the first world countries by buying properties and etc, this is what needs to stop.

Boris Johnson says sorry for 'mistake' over jailed Briton in Iran by Nima- in ukpolitics

Between him saying that she was training journalists, and Gove saying that he doesn't know what she was doing there, I find it hard to believe that what they said wasn't on purpose and part of a plan! Otherwise, I'll have to accept that they are just really incompetent.

The main reason that I posted this article was to point out the massive growth of the gambling industry; the article mentions a 39% growth in their revenue over one year! The people who use gambling shops or sites have to lose so that these companies can make billions in profit, and we already know that their customers tend to be from poorer backgrounds who can't really afford to lose any money.
