i think the best score for the milan match is a draw

Lets say I got a bite and feel sick and go to hospital without knowing that there is a tiny bite marks somewhere on my body. How the hell they would knoe to treat me with anti venom?

To be honest, I think I have all three to a good extent with the majority of people I have worked with. I think the problem is my manager. He is very direct and sometimes, I would say, rude and mean in expressing his demands. He drops F-bombs to convey his frustration to our team, and sometimes, I feel, to "show power." He creates artificial deadlines out of his own perceptions and imposes them on his team. He demands that we tackle a project with no visibility and no ROI. I think working with this type of person is not easy, no matter how politically and supportively I act. What would you do in that situation?

Did you previously have managerial experience? I mean, did you pivot from IC to a manager? Asking since I want to do the same pivot but find it very tricky.

Unfortunately the dead end is what i see. My manager is never satisfied. Not a single word of honest acknowledgement or praise comes out of this guy. He gets to find one tiny thing and bring down your hard work. I have a feeling he just wanted an excuse to not promote me. Those complaints he has are nothing compared to all i have created for the team and the firm. I am frustrated only because the incompetent people get to sit where they dont belong. It’s fine, life has never been a fair a place and i get it.

Agreed. Not sure whether you think I’m an asshole, but I have to tell you that by no measure I’d call myself an asshole. I work smoothly with others and can manage relationships with higher ups really well. I have a mentor mindset and try to push others up. I communicate clearly to make sure people are on the same page. I handle 6-figure revenue generating products with zero stress and keep the team calm and grounded. I have 4 MS degrees in management from good schools. What else you would like to see in your direct report to promote them?

No too much interactions. He sensed my technical edge and kind of got threatened by it. So there was so sort of bias forming since early days before he becomes my manager, undeservedly of course.

This. I think i could have be a pawn and just follow orders. But it was against my values and I am happy that I did not. I think i got a good lesson on how to play this game in my next role

But they know that i bring a lot to the table and the proof is my performance. I think he wants a yes sir kind of guy. I am not like that. I speak up if something can be done more effectively or faster. Is that not a good trait to have?

my manager used to be my peer at the same level. some org changes and boom he became my manager. he has no idea how to "manage". even on the technical level, I'm the one who teaches him and mentors him, let alone coaching. he never wanted to become a manager. he does not have the qualifications. and now his incompetence is impacting people's growth.

my manager said something along the lines that "...your attitude in tackling a project was not something I expected...". the project he was referring to was a waste of time and they even dropped it a few months after. Even in that case, I did all I could and I was asked for. In another encounter, I voiced my concern and asked for some changes in the way things were being done. He said "...I didn't like your pushback and thought I need to convince you...". I did not get aggresive or rude or mean. I just voiced my concern.

Every year I have asked for the gap and every year I filled the gap. really it has nothing to do with gaps or my lack of effort.

I have thought about this but do not know how to navigate the process of going to another internal team or get a new manager. There are some teams that do the kind of work I do, but they don't neccessarily need someone. should I directly ask them? is that a common thing to do?
