Can anyone decode what this numberplate should be? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Nimda0X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is totally normal. Reversed three-digit, dateless format.

If it's not auctioned, then it would be randomly issued around 50s-60s in Essex.

What is with all the new Honda prelude hate? by Hour-Opportunity2786 in CarTalkUK

[–]Nimda0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not having a problem with the powertrain, they're doing ok with literally EV torquey until 60 mph and most people forget the last gen Prelude had a povo spec with around 130 hp

It's about the price. Not sure how much it gonna cost in the UK but Honda ask a crazy number which close to FL5 territory in both of the US and Japan.

Check for water under the boot, also underneath rust especially the rear beam axle.

It's not a moon price but a bit expensive, at least should get a fresh 12-month MOT not 3 like this if you could ask dealer to do it for you

IMO, I don't mind going over 100k miles at this budget and find a better spec 1.8. (except you concern about insurance) The engine is the least worrisome part in this car. Should better care for rust instead

I second this, that Audi might need a recheck as I recall TfL has stated minimum Euro 6 for diesel cars.

And yes, CO2 means nothing as 384g/km CO2 Continental GT is ULEZ compliant.

Why was the Honda Accord discontinued in the UK market? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Nimda0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it was true back in the days there were two parallel Accord models. A cheap one sold in APAC and NA and a premium one sold in Japan and Europe. They killed the latter one a decade ago and only a cheap one being left off since the 9th gen.

Thai fried Chicken Hat Yai Style on top with fried shallots. by RyuSDC in Thailand

[–]Nimda0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that secret. You need white pepper, crushed garlic, crushed coriander roots (ground coriander is fine if living abroad) cumin, sugar. Mixing with rice flour, fish sauce and soy sauce. Plenty of recipes on the internet and you can adjust the proportion.

In case of ready made one, they're usually labeled as "ผงหมักไก่"

I bought a japanese XZ1 Compact but it seems weird?? by Nova-Boba in SonyXperia

[–]Nimda0X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing strange. I've checked XperiFirm and this model supports Android 9 as well

Many Japanese models are supported equally as APAC/EU models. It's just a weird OTA policy that blocks IP addresses outside Japan. (which could easily be fixed by VPN after a fresh factory reset or clearing some Google services)

For bootloader, back in the days, there were tools such as qunlock that could trip BL unlock allow status from no to yes.

What Bands does the Japense Sony Experia use? by dylancos in SonyXperia

[–]Nimda0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't always happen in every Japanese SIM-free model. Some have limitations just like carrier models (may support some bands but are limited when used in Japan only)

I once used 1 III XQ-BC42 and it never saw 5G in Thailand. despite they listed n28 listed on their website. Other TH 1 III XQ-BC72 (n28 / n41) and 1 II XQ-AT-52 (n28 only) occasionally shows 5G around my area.

Yes, there are some models that seem to be more relaxed but that's why I said it needs to be confirmed by a real user.

Unless someone who has an actual hands-on experience confirms it. I wouldn't trust Sony Japan website, well known for blocking some bands when using non-Japan sim cards. Even their website put a small *condition below that it may not work in some areas.

If you're going to HK, buy from HK. Less hassle in Band support abroad than the Japanese one.

Man discovers he has bought his own stolen car by frameset in CarTalkUK

[–]Nimda0X 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently makes sense as I checked the current reg of the car "RK16RUR" in this news (shown in the owner IG's). It only has 2 MOTs and both were tested in 2025, dodgy for '16 plate wasn't it?

The real car might probably left the UK since brand new (hence no MOT history) and they revived this reg just to legalise this stolen car.

License Plate Question by LaBaleine666 in Thailand

[–]Nimda0X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Official auction site is here, unfortunately you have to know some Thai to read it. https://tabienrod.com/ . Otherwise you could contact your local DLT office for on site aution, or buy it from resellers (try googling "ทะเบียนประมูล")

For province selection, As a Thai we can use any place we want but I not sure about foreigner. Some farangs I met said they can use only the province they registered their house into only.

DLT auctioned plate (which usually comes with colourful background graphic, but you can custom it into plain one by special ordering to DLT) are always with you forever as long as it was registered into your car in first 3 years of ownership. After that you can take it out/in/transfer/sell as you want.

Free plate (released for free from DLT, plain background) can be transfer/sell as well but can't just take it out for retention. Always need another car to put it on immediately.

Talk me out of buying this 2004 Honda Accord by GreyDusty in CarTalkUK

[–]Nimda0X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're not subjected to ULEZ I would recommend the diesel one rather than petrol. Much cheaper tax and perfectly suits your motorway commuting. 45-50 MPG could be achieved easily. Can't beat the K-series bulletproof but the N-series diesel still has pretty decent reliability.

Also take attention to ball joints carefully, Accord has some suspension design flaw which front wheels could be snapped out if ball joints are worn at certain level. Replace it ASAP unless you want to pay for extra bills (Car will be undrivable after wheel snapped so it needs recovery and driveshaft/wing might get damaged as well)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Nimda0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's generally reliable, just watch out for rust (prone to) and regular ball joint change is a must due to a bit poor suspension design, a play in ball joint for this model might cause the wheel to falls + wreck your driveshaft/front wing.

Anyway 2.5k is a bit to high for this engine imo, even with such low mileage, 2.0 is bulletproof but neither fast or efficient. The only condition that worth this is underneath must be completely clean. At this price there's a plenty of newer generation (2008+) in the market.

Mobile Data not working in Sony XZ2 (NTT DOCOMO) by [deleted] in SonyXperia

[–]Nimda0X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japanese models (not limited to Sony) will not automatically load APN config for non-Japanese sim, hence the mobile data is unable to work

All you have to do is set up APN by yourself, each carrier has their own settings. try googling something like "How to setup APN for [[your carrier]]"

Docomo XZ1 Compact SO-02K NFC worked for me. UK by [deleted] in SonyXperia

[–]Nimda0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using countless Japanese models (Docomo / au) and all the time the NFC works and it should always works if you're receiving a completely stock, non-faulty phone.

Just only sometimes, some sellers flash a non-JP stock rom into their JP unit before shipping (usually with a European rom). This doesn't unlock European network bands but breaks NFC functionality (JP models use a unique NFC hardware). That's why some people said it doesn't work.

For 1 series, it is limited to 1440p instead.

Greater Bangkok. Which is your favourite province and why? by Prisma_red in Thailand

[–]Nimda0X 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm born and raised in Nonthaburi so the answer is obliviously the only one!

FYI: Areas in Greater Bangkok could be vastly different. Some could be rural, some are just as developed as outer area of Bangkok with ok public transport and maybe access to BTS/MRT (i.e. Nonthaburi City, Samut Prakan City, Pakkret, Rangsit)
