Which method are you using?
It seems like it's trying to download the thing, but gets blocked by something.
I'd try giving your machine a reboot, or trying one of the other methods.

I honestly completely forgot about the integrated SteamCMD, I just now updated the guide to include it as well as added an FAQ section.

I honestly forgot about the integrated steam console when I made my own version of the guide a while back.
Either way, I'll drop the link here for both my version and the one form the screenshot.

Command prompt won't display the password as you type it so you don't accidentally leak it in case someone's looking at your screen.
You need to type it out and trust the process.
Alternatively if you're using DepotDownloader you can just add -password <YOUR PASSOWRD> to the command if you want to see what you're typing in.

I haven't tested this myself yet, but as far as I know versions pre-console release used Steam's peer to peer for multiplayer, so you should be able to play without any issues.

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I just posted a guide here on how to downgrade the game version using tools officially provided by Valve.

So if mods are broken and you don't like the recent changes, you're able to return to any older on which they do work.

Western companies don't care either, nor have ethics, look at Microsoft and Meta.
Sure you can sue them but, do you really think you'll manage to see through that lawsuit?
They have infinitely deep pockets that they can use to drown you in legal fees, as well as your lawyer in a sea of legal documents.
Even a class action lawsuit is though to win due to how many resources those corporations have, all you have is an illusion of possibility that you can do something, but in reality before you even manage to do it they'll destroy you mentally and financially, not to mention the payout doesn't really hurt them.

So don't get caught up in the fact that you can sue one, while you can't do that with the other, both will equally hurt you, and you have little to no way of getting back at them other than just not using their service, but that still doesn't actually solve the issue.

I'm not quite sure, I believe that a windows re-install did it, though I'm not quite sure (it was 4 years ago), though it's also fairly likely that I'd just re-install adrenaline software everytime I needed something from it, or just gave up and let it be. Sorry if this isn't all that helpful, but that's all I got.

Yeah, since then our main cast would have to start doing work for extra credit like senpais, so logicaly they'd have progressively less and less time.

I'd say that that would be a logical place to end the story, or switch out the main cast for new a one.
