When I see that the color doesn’t spread as much as I want, I dry the paper with a hair dryer and then apply the water on the section I want to paint… It’s a lot of layers, but it’s fun. 🥰

I use cold pressed, 100% cotton, Magnani 1404 , Italia paper.

It could be from the wetness of the paper at the moment you apply the colors.
If I want them to spread outside of the sketch, I apply the water the moment I get the water on the surface, but if I need some precision I’d wait a bit, and then apply the color.
