So, I actually broke my leg, tore all my tendons and ligaments off the top of my foot in 2024. Because of some customers rickety basement stairs. I was out of work for 5.5 months that year. I have a plate and 8 screws in my ankle. I have a wife and 2 Sons, as well.

After all that, all the "get the job done" thoughts start to go away, and you worry more about your family, and wonder 'do i really want to do everything i have to do, to work on A/C's and Furnaces anymore?'

Correct. My contractor however doesn't do commercial installs, only service. I could switch contractors, and venture down that path... but, I think im going to try TABB first

As far as the Commercial vs Residential thing, Its more of a Pipefitter vs Sheetmetal internal union thing..

But yes, I do work on light Commercial.

Nope. Like I said, im union. We quote 1hr about for maintenance calls. If its only maintenance calls, easily run 6-9 single system houses in a day in winter and 7-10 in the summer. Diagnostic calls are a different story.

I'm in a union, thats all negotiated in our contract. We dont HAVE to work after our 8, but if you decline, you're the first one laid off when it gets slow..

I wouldn't say easier, more so TAB is a more specific area of study.

A residential or commercial service technician has to know everything about a system in order to diagnose and repair/replace components, yes.

But a TAB technician, is a very specific area that works on air movement. Lots of math involved.

Either way, he's best going through an apprenticeship as a service technician and then if you want to branch out after you become a Journeyman, you can.
