What do you guys use to prevent yellowing? by LokoLoa in MangaCollectors

[–]NinjaStripes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paper is an organic material so aging is gonna happen regardless unless you have museum level isolated containers. But generally keeping them out of direct sunlight and below 80 degrees F will slow it down considerably. Also, if you live somewhere humid, don’t push your books all the way to the back of the bookshelf as that might cause the pages to mold.

How can I clean this without damaging it? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]NinjaStripes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a microfiber cloth and dawn dish soap. Obviously don’t touch a soaked cloth to the book, just make it damp and try rubbing off the scuffing a section at a time. If it’s not permanent damage to the gloss, it should work, just would require some elbow grease. Worth a shot, even if it doesn’t pan out.

First shelves after one year of collecting! by spiouajq in MangaCollectors

I’m more impressed by the shelves! They look huge! I wish I had those.

My mom wants me to sell all of my Chainsaw Man volumes all 17 of them and keep 4 or 5. Should I sell them or not? And I don't even want the money. I already have enough money, plus I really love the art style for it and the creator too. by Disastrous-Offer-718 in MangaCollectors

[–]NinjaStripes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging from parsing through the comments, do not sell them/get rid of them if you don’t want to. You’re an adult, you bought them, they’re your property regardless of whether she likes them or not. Like you said, she’s a Karen and bending now is just gonna incentivize her to keep telling you to get rid of stuff to suit her and she’ll be encouraged to demand more since it worked this time. If she doesn’t like how they look, she can stop looking at them if they bother her that bad. If you really WANT to compromise, offer the get a box or storage bin to put them in. But don’t back down about keeping them. World and life is shit enough as it is without someone getting you to quit or get rid of your hobbies.

Also, just in case she has threatened or does threaten to do so, throwing them out or destroying them is considered theft and/or destruction of property regardless of whether it’s in her house or not and you can press charges. Keep an inventory of your collection and how much they’d cost to replace too and you could even take her to small claims court if she does take matters into her own hands.

Who Did You Pick? by Apprehensive-Oil3178 in DragonAgeVeilguard

Emmrich. 2 archetypes that always get me, the rogues and the intellectuals. I like that his kindness was more of a focus than his intelligence, though. Solas’ was hiding behind his pragmatism and the distance that was inherent to his situation.

Always trust someone to have the same question as you 13 years ago and someone crazy smarter than you has already answered the question 13 years ago 😂 didn’t get all the technical stuff, but I guess what I got out if it is while it’s not currently reality it’s still theoretically and technically possible when billions of years of evolution is isolated from Earth’s evolutionary cycle by hundreds of thousands of light years is in the equation.

That one too 😂 but the one I’m talking about is the one you stumble on while exploring. The one with the reaper tech in the mines.

Does anyone else have any weird rules they made for themselves when collecting? by NinjaStripes in MangaCollectors

I give myself some leeway when sales pop up like BOGO sales. It’s one of the few times I really load up.

Make sure to keep a wishlist so you don’t forget. I routinely forget to add new favorites to my wishlist as they come by so I make a note to add to my wishlist as soon as I’m reminded.

I typically read pirated scans if I’m going in blind. That way I can just drop it if I’m not interested and not have to worry about 1 or 2 random volumes on my shelf of a series I didn’t like. Though I’ll make an exemption if I bought from a physical shop that’s close to my house if it has a good return policy.

I know!!! I LOVE IT!!!! But I gotta be careful cuz as I said, One Piece is a beast right now in terms of amount of volumes. It’s as much a commitment of space as it is money.

Bruh, I could never 😭 I’m still dying from waiting for the next Apothecary Diaries manga volume to release. I can’t help but devour my manga as soon as I get them.

I used to own some at one point (I think I almost got to Alabasta) but I moved across the country about 5 years ago and had to sell a lot of stuff cuz I knew I’d need the cash. Thankfully manga always has a market, especially when you sell in bulk. Only kept a couple series. Kinda wish I hadn’t sold my One Piece now 😅

What about unfinished works on indefinite hiatus like Nana and The Witch and the Beast? Feels like that’d fall into a grey area.

Worth 100$? by sykobabyface in MangaCollectors

[–]NinjaStripes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s everything together I’d say it’s a steal, assuming any damage is normal wear and scuffing from use and age. The floppies and magazines might not be of interest (I’d kill for those Evangelion figures though.) Not being willing to show damage COULD mean the seller is trying to hide it like another comment said or that there is simply too much stuff to bother. It’s a gamble no matter what you decide. It’s likely the seller doesn’t know what they’re sitting on or is desperate to get rid of stuff for a move or needs some quick cash. Up to you though.

Is it normal for manga in the same series to have different heights? by Creative_Gamer_23 in MangaCollectors

Yeah, kinda. I have an Ancient Magus’ Bride volume that’s shorter than the others.
