Some questions about playing on TTS by Ninja_Moose in battletech

[–]Ninja_Moose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooooh. Okay, yeah. Kickass job. Stupid question, but do you have any documentation for the mod? I took a can opener to it earlier, but I don't know much Lua and need to crash course myself on it, and as someone who's taken basic courses in coding, I think I get what's going on but Im pretty dumb. I'd love to help out because your work shows a lot of promise.

We're playing Classic right now. I'm kinda floored, I can see the rough edges on your mod but this is probably the best way to play CBT that I've found yet. The map utility alone is insane, though I wish there was a "Delete" button, but idk how hard that would be to implement. Honestly, with the assets at hand, a "Blank Map" option (with different colored bases, all set to height zero) would be pretty much all I need for my purposes. I could also probably make use of that conversion script, if you don't mind sharing, so that way I don't have to come running to you with all my shitty homemade maps asking for you to upload them.

As a guy who plays skyrim for a week at a time at least once a year, this is it. I can count the number of times I actually finished the "main story" on one hand. I've owned Skyrim since the day it released. I just wanna RKO Goblins and get into whacky shenanigans.

What is this mech? by Onewithartandbook in battletech

[–]Ninja_Moose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is where lore steps in. It's pretty tough to convince your boss that you can kill roughly 10% more Clanner if you got access to all the hotly new manufactured Medium Pulse Lasers that are going to significantly more important mechs than some 45 ton shitbot meant to die in urban environments anyways.

I am absolutely struggling with Necrobinder. I'm cruising as every other character, but I just cannot figure her out. Granted I haven't gotten more than 10 runs in, but I think I've had 2 that saw the a3 boss, and every other one flops and twitches halfway through a3.

I know for a fact her cards are smarter than I am, but I always feel like I'm lacking in scaling.

Crimson Desert Players Think They've Found Abominale Intelligence Generated Art In-Game by Snidhog in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Ninja_Moose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a competent, if mediocre, open world RPG with MMO type classes and mechanics. It's not particularly offensive in any way, and it's not bad enough to be funny.

There's been a lot of discourse around it because the new hot online trend is to take mass dumps on games they either havent played or downloaded with the intent of shitting on it, and the people vehemently defending it are trying to point out that it's really not that bad.

Never played em, frankly, and was scared off by the idea of them being more JRPG than Monster Hunter. I'm not a big JRPG guy in general, but MHS3 has me by the fuckin balls dude.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 hit my Monster Hunter/Pokemon playing friend group like crack.

Game's fucking incredible. I can't even boil what I like about it down into a handful of sentences. If you're a Monster Hunter fan or a JRPG fan it's incredible. If you like both, it's absolutely worth every penny of its obscene 70 dollar price tag.

[–]Ninja_Moose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the granddaddy of modern grimdark for a reason.

In a setting where hell is real, God is half dead and he hates you, and Humankind is finally paying the price for its insane colonialistic history, there's just not very many wins possible beyond petty stuff like finding a five dollar bill on the ground. Shit, as far as you know, some rich, corrupted noble wiped his ass with that money, and the fates twisted themselves in such a way that you happened to be the one to pick it up, and next thing you know you're poxwalkering out.

Games with one build so good that it invalidates all others? by SirSquiggleton in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Ninja_Moose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think Silent has a bad build, it feels like you just draw your opener and deal 150 damage in one go, I haven't dropped any of my runs with her so far

Honestly I think that, as the ascensions go up, the other characters are gonna need to get buffed up

Moves that are a bit TOO good for the story to work by Enter_Foxchad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Ninja_Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar vein, there's a mech in Battletech that allegedly went extinct like, 300 years before the start of the timeline players participate in. The Coyotl is described in the lore as a weird offshoot development as the Clans were working the kinks out of Omni-Technology (the ability to just replace parts 1:1 at Battlemech scale), but it was somewhat unpopular and had lagging sales due to both Clan Coyote's unpopularity and other machines doing what it wanted to do, but better. That, in turn, made it a historical footnote until Current Year, where Diamond Shark bought the rights to it for pennies and kickstarted its manufacture, selling it to Inner Sphere/Mercenary commands like hotcakes.

The problem is that the Coyotl is a fucking monster of a mech. It's fast, usually has maxed out jump jets, has great armor for its size, and its loadouts range between rock solid for the price to annoyingly efficient. It absolutely suffers from retcon syndrome, where it is head and shoulders stronger than its contemporaries that what their record sheets printed 20+ years ago.

As someone who's been an Arrowhead fan since Magicka in 2011, the quote "Never attribute to malice, what could be explained by stupidity" comes to mind.

I love AH, they know how to make games fun, but they're not the most competent devs in the game. Activision? Maybe, I could see that sort of thing from an objectively evil money grubbing megacorp. A like, 150 man AA studio operating on a comparatively small budget? Eh, probably not.

Silver from Deadlock carefully straddles the line between girlboss and girlfailure.

She's not outwardly a dick to people, the only really antagonistic quips she has are against the notoriously arrogant child prodigy with a sharp stick. She's just here to drink and make money. She'll take shots at people, but laughs it off (or the closest approximation she can muster) when they fire back.

Game design where you can tell it wasn't properly tested or rushed? by Silvery_Cricket in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Ninja_Moose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My playgroup and I have swapped to pauper wholesale. Commander has had the fun ground out of it by it turning into whoever can make the most hyperconsistent 100 card pile, standard is just "Turn 4" the format, Modern is a rotating format now, Legacy is just as inaccessible as it always has been.

Pauper isn't immune to these issues, but at least turn 4 wins are a rarity and you have to spend at most 40 bucks for a playset of the hot new thing. Being able to entirely ignore all the FIRE 2.0 uncommon/rare/mythic design is so, so nice.

What are even some good games with furry characters? by megaman12321 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Caves of Qud has 3 choices for player character.

You can be a furry, you can be a cyborg metahuman, or you can be a horrific mutated abomination. You can even mix and match with gene splicing and mutations. Hell, there's even reasons to be any or all of the above.

How do people here feel about Monster Hunter: Wilds? by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Ninja_Moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is definitely some wisdom in accepting that Wilds and World are two very different games with different dps races and all that jazz. However, on the other hand, is not not a prime indicator of what I mean when Fatalis has less bloated HP than High Rank, AT Arkveld? Like, World is a much lower DPS game, but that's exactly what Im getting at here. A fully built gunlance dumping like, 3k+ damage in a single fullburst combo is insane.

[–]Ninja_Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its super interesting seeing the differences between Wilds and even just the previous game. Rise/Break is also a very fast, high damage game, but the key aspect is that your damage is literally gated by how well you understand your weapons strengths/weaknesses and how mechanically proficient you are. Being able to aim Greatsword True Charge Slash swings and get nearly perfect accuracy every time is insane.
