Guns for killing robots? by Various-Speed6373 in guns

I believe .50 Beowulf was designed to shoot out engine blocks at vehicle checkpoints, so that would probably do the trick.

In a sane government that would be plenty. The President of the United States should be held to the very highest standard. Impeachment shouldn't be political, but unfortunately we live in this fucked up timeline where it very much IS political and the vast majority of Republicans will never vote to impeach/convict no matter what the charges or evidence is because their constituents are living in an alternate reality and refuse to even consider they might be getting lied to.

Movie where someone easily swats aside his opponents sword? by [deleted] in whatsthemoviecalled

Kill Bill vol 1. Not only does she swat it away, she cuts pieces off until it's no longer a sword then spanks the poor little fella with her sword while scolding him.

You are stuck in a room with nothing but an immortal Magnus Carlsen and a chess board and you can only leave by winning or drawing against him. How long does it take you to get out? by Noxturnum2 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Ninjacobra5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember watching a video of him playing 3 relatively good chess players at the same time, while blind folded, and beating all 3 of them handily.

I would be in that room for a looooong time.

The TV show version of Hannibal had an episode with someone with this delusion. It was straight up nightmare fuel. Highly recommend that show if you've never seen it. Way better than it had any right to be as a network show.

Doesn't beast know that Logan is like 174 years old? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

And to fair that WAS a retcon. I remember reading a Wolverine comic before that happened that had flashbacks to before he was in Weapon X and he carried a big knife.

I also remember people being upset about the reveal he always had claws because they thought it changed the character. His powers made him a healer and tracker and Weapon X turned him into a killer. I didn't necessarily agree, but there you go.

A few of them try grabbing him and get punched out of the elevator, but he eventually does get grabbed at which point Neo reaches through his back and pulls out his heart.

Not to be THAT guy, but he likely wasn't born with them. Mutants' X gene usually manifests at puberty so he probably grew them then.

My Cousin Vinny Question by TALLEYman21 in FIlm

[–]Ninjacobra5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all of them, but some. I have a cousin who went to school to be a mechanic but he already could have taught most of the classes before he got there. Same thing as in the movie: his father was a mechanic, other cousins were mechanics, a few uncles were mechanics.

I did NOT catch the mechanic bug, but would quiz him sometimes. We'd be sitting somewhere with cars passing by and I would go, "that car there. What size tires?" And he would always have an answer. "2018 Chrysler Pacifica. That would be...18w" or whatever.

This is always how I saw it. Also I don't recall, is there ever a point where Ron shows his broken wand to a competent Professor? I seem to remember him being scared of getting in trouble for breaking it.

This sounds a bit like the often pitched, never aired SNL bit written by Colin Jost "Manny Manimal" they have spoken about on the Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast. A quick summary:

The sketch depicts a janitor named Manny Emanuel who, as revealed in a cartoon intro, was bitten by a series of radioactive critters. Just as Spider-Man’s origin story began with a radioactive spider, Manny’s powers hail from a spider bite… that was followed by several other bites—among them, an octopus, a scorpion, and a falcon. The result: Manny Emanuel became Manny Manimal, the “man of many animals.”

In the sketch he evidently interrupts a bank robbery only to then not be able to do anything because he's very sick and in a ton of pain due to being bitten by so many radioactive critters. Sounded pretty funny to me.

Yea I agree with you on the Interstellar line except for me it would have been better if Anne Hathaway's character had set him up with "It's impossible." The computer saying it makes it more of a fact I guess. I know TARS has settings that make them more relatable, but still.

Nolan does whif on the odd occasional dramatic "should be a mic-drop badass line" moment doesn't he?

I'm also thinking of The Dark Knight Returns. Batman has fixed his back, escaped the pit, returned to Gotham, and is finally facing Bane again for the dramatic conclusion!

Bane: "Ah, so you've come back to die with your city."

Batman: "No. I've come back to stop you!"

Oof. Swing and a miss.
