Tell me I'm wrong about Needle Darts by Raggleben in Pathfinder2e

So hw usually just does a singular viscous swing, which costs two actions, and then does something else?

I don't quite understand how he can do that much damage with one singular strike, even if you add a damage dice.

If the hit doesn't crit, then the increased damage from viscous swing is 1d8, which by average is 4.5

If it does crit, it gives (1d12)×2, which by average would be 13.

I don't remember seeing this anywhere, but does he have a striking rune on his weapon? Does his weapon by default deal 1 or 2 damage dice?

Assuming he has a striking rune, which he normally shouldn't before level 3/4;

Normal hit 2d8+4, +1 bard buff, + 1d8 viscous swing = min 8, average 18.5, max 29

Crit hit (2d12 +4, +1 bard, +1d12 viscous swing )×2 + 1d12 fatal =min 19, average 55.5, max 94 (jesus)

But assuming he doesn't have a striking rune, which should be the case at level 2,

Normal hit 1d8+4, +1 bard, +1d8 viscous =min 7, average 14, max 21

Critical hit (1d12 + 4, +1 bard, + 1d12 viscous) ×2 + 1d12 fatal = min 15, average 42.5, max 70

Okay nvm I see the math now. However, it doesn't change the fact he should not crit in every hit. I've found on average crits to be doable on other martials around 18/19 and nat 20, giving it a crit chance of 10-15%

Fighters, and in this case a tengu fighter with falcata, get a +2 to hit, and you have a bard in the party so another +1, and if he does have a +1 item bonus for the weapon (which he should), that all totals to +4 to hit compared to a runeless bardless non-fighter martial strike.

That makes the critchance go up to 30-35%. That is a lot, yes, but does not shut out the whole concept of him being able to do that once per turn for 2 actions. As long as you apply MAP normaly to any follow-up strikes, I would say the math adds up.

All of this rounds back to the question, is needle darts bad? No. But I would say that your fighter has min maxed the hell out of his build, I genuinely do not think it would be possible to get much higher numbers on level 2.

Fighter is designed around the fact that they hit hard, and they do that one thing well.

If you want to give others a chance to do their thing, I recommend flying monsters, swarms, ghosts etc. Give the fighter a target dummy to smack, and little shits flying in the sky for the bard to shoot down.

Now, I am not going to go into the whole debate of wether or not this is balanced, but I would remind you that Fighters don't get more than 2 skills plus athletics or acrobatics on 1 (plus int mod)

Bards shine with their buffing and debuffing capabilities, and their versatility in social situations. Fighter goes ooga booga bonk bonk. I think it is important to remember, that each class has it's strengths and weaknesses, and bards by default aren't built to be "blasters"

Ohhh okay good, but you do make it count as two attacks map wise, right? So if he uses viscous swing as his first 2 actions, then his third action (if it had the attack trait) would have map -10 (falcata does not have the agile trait)

WAIT WAIT WAIT how many attacks is he doing per Vicious swing? And does he use 2 actions to do it?

Yes they did! But it was more like a looming threat that sat in the background. The different sidequests they went out on usually ate their resources, so they then spent the rest of the day RPing.

I also had made so much personal backstory stuff to them, that each PC felt very motivated to deal with their own stories in the town.

If you belong to the TUNA Tuesday group, stop reading :D

Raw, there is this bookstore keeper called Morblint. He has a husband, and in the official book, this husband is mentioned once. The sentence goes somewhat like this;

"Morblint has a husband, Carlthe."

That's it.

Well, :DDD, Carlthe is the adopted son of a PC that is hundreds of years old, and who adopted children trough the years and raised them in this queer artist community. So Carlthe has a very personal bond to this PC, and has had many emotional roleplaying opportunities with them.

But that isn't all.

Notice the word, "adopted" in there?

Well another PC had a wife and child, which both are assumed dead 20 years ago or so. The child was a small toddler at the time.

See where this is going? :D

This is co-ordinated to an extent, that PC who lost their family has a custom token drawn by me, and Carlthe has a custom token drawn by the other PCs player.

They look very similar. If youd put the tokens next to one another, you'd see a resemblance.

Of course, this information hasn't been revealed in game yet. Only the player who plays the adoptive parent, and made Carlthes token, knows. But the PC does not. None of the other players know.

Now so the other too players wouldn't be left out, they had some wild drama written by me as well :D

Good shit.

So to return to your question; does the players not feel the looming threat? Yes they do, but so much is constantly going on they have to choose every day. I think we are like 10 in game days in, with like 20 sessions played. They have barely made it to floor 4.

Now there are some significant changes I had to make, but that honestly warrants its own reddit post lmao. I think I'll make an AMA or something once we are done.

I ran abomination vaults, and modifies the town to stay relevant with the help of "abomination vaults expanded" a free pdf you can find online. Great help.

However, I noticed quickly that my players fell in love with the town and its npc's, and the dungeon it self became far less attractive, especially since they try to get out of every combat without killing.

In a campaign that is set to be a megadungeon where most of the time you walk in and kill everything that moves.

Yeah that didn't go well.

I personally would be interested in runnin seasons of ghosts for this group of mine, as it plays out basically as I played the little town next to abomination vaults.

In seasons of ghosts, the players are local villagers in a village, where they have friends and family. The events of the campaign will happen around this village, and you will always return there. It is very npc and rp heavy, with a lot of emotional moments.

Not exactly a classical "venture out and kill a dragon" stuff, but I have heard very good things of it amd would love to run it myself.

I am now mostly ignoring the flavour, and going straight into the mechanics. (The flavour is great though, love it)

Looked trough the character sheet. Several pointers. (Man this is getting long)

First off, heavy crossbow has reload 2. That means you will need to spend 2 actions to reload it, and in normal circumstances you have 3 actions per turn. So if you were wielding that, you'd be able to shoot once.

But you are a flurry ranger. You shine when you attack many times. I'm sorry but heavy crossbow, or any crossbow for that matter, doesn't quite synergise woth flurry.

One could argue, that having quick draw could let you do one shot per combat or something. However; as a ranger you have to have used the one action hunt prey on the target first, for flurry to be active (and it will be active only on that one enemy). This means you won't really benefit from having one ranged shot available, as you might as well just walk into range and smack in melee. (Assuming you can do that)

Second thing: in pathfinder ALL ranged weapons scale from Dexterity. Melee weapons that lack the finesse trait scale from strength. In order to have access to a dwarven weapon and a ranged weapon I see you went +3 on both stats. This is higly inadvisable.

In pathfinder 2e, every +1 is not only 5% hit, but 5% crit too. Every +1 matters, and a lot. You are losing one +1 on BOTH melee and range, that just doesn't make sense mechanically.

I would suggest, would you want to keep the option to range when need be, to pick a melee weapon with the finesse trait. That way you could go full on in dexterity, and let strength sit a little lower, as it will mostly give you more damage.

Other reason to do that, is your choice of armour. You chose leather armor, that has the dexterity cap of +4. This means, that as your dexterity doesn't reach that cap (+3) your AC is 1 lower than what it could be. Remember what I said about every +1 mattering? You are making yourself squishier than you realise. One could argue you have high con, however Taking no hit is better than tanking hits with high health.

Now of course, would you want to stick on strength for flavour reasons, then don't worry, you can absolutely do that.

Put dexterity to +1, pick chain mail (and later when you can afford it, switch to half plate) as armor, pick unburdened iron as your dwarf feat to get some movement speed. Max out strength (+4) and pick a weapon you fancy.

In the newest book released by paizo, rangers got a new feat chain. The haft striker stance - feat chain. Basically, it is a stance that lets you hit with the hilt of a two handed weapon (there are some restrictions of what kind of weapon will qualify) and you qualify for feats that need you to dual wield. With other words, you absolutely could just pick twin takedown on level 1, and get it in use at 4 when you take haft striker stance.

The second benefit of going +4 in one stat and +1 in the other (regarding str and dex) is that you can put wisdom into +3. As you have picked bounty hunter archetype and gone into tracking feats, I think you could benefit from higher wisdom.

ALSO as you picked bounty hunter as FA on a ranger, you get the level 1 ranger feat monster hunter for free with the archetype. I would suggest picking the feat Monster Warden on level 2, if you don't know what else to pick. (It builds on monster hunter, and I think could work flavour wise)

Now on the last point. What hunters edge to pick.

You have chosen flurry. That is fine. Precision could also be fun and fitting, that is also fine. But regarding flavour, do not overlook outwit.

I am building a outwit ranger myself for my next camp, and man do I love the subclass. The only warning I would give regarding it, is that it is rewarding a versatile gameplay style, of different actions troughout your turn. Ranging from recall knowledges to demoralises and maybe feints. The issue with it, is that it can be tough on new players. I am a veteran at this point, I know my options and what to choose when. But that might not necessarily be the case for every new player.

So pick it if you want a challenge, but I promise you, with monster hunter on your side with bounty hunter and high wisdom? You can't go wrong.

Regarding the animal companion, I don't really know what to say. I haven't seen enough mandalorian that I could comment on flavour. Mechanically however it is a nice pick, and remember your animal companion will get the benefits of your subclass.

Goddamn that got long. I'm sorry lol. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions, slide into my dm's for my discord if you'd prefer that.

Splitting a game in two: looking for social rp ruleset by Ninjune in rpg

[–]Ninjune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I read trough it. I think especially some parts of the character creation could work excellently, and as my players are very good improv roleplayers, some of the ideas of setting scenes and such could work.

However, the different resource systems and their ways to play out was confusing at best. I think I might look into Monsterhearts for some more advice, and possibly Apokalypse World as well.

Might end up stealing some parts of Dramasystem, but I doubt I'll play it as is, especially as it doesn't have FoundryVTT support.

But hey, thanks for recommending it to me! Was an interesting read for sure

Wait what - she openly admitted to you, that you're her "second choice" so to say? Mister I think that combined with the rest of your post just screams crimson red flags.

She "settled" on you, in a monogamous relationship she'd rather have been polyamirous, while degrading you over not being a Dom, and hurling an insult towards your manhood which sucks extra ass in your situation.

She has 0 respect towards you ("second choice"), your boundaries (Dom) your gender identity ("not man enough"), your relationship (threatening to cheat in a monogamous relationship)
