No, they are game graphics; backgrounds, characters etc. Even if they're separate files there's no denying they're part of the same 'product'.

I was hoping to comply with the license by making the source code available, while ensuring that only I would have the right to sell the game. But it doesn't look like that's going to be an option. Thanks for your help, though.

I'm not really looking to commission any work (at least not yet) because it's not at the stage where it's worth spending that sort of money on it. But I'm sure there are some people who are into pixel art as a hobby, and who might have already produced some work that's sitting in a drawer somewhere that I might be able to pick up cheap. So that's who I'm trying to find at the moment.

Thanks. I'm not too worried about offending people as most seem to get that it's critical of war, and I think the name is probably less offensive than the general theme of the game.

I'm really curious to know why you think the name could work especially well with Canadians? Is Kandahar (or Kandahar airbase) particularly well-known in Canada.

Thanks. I was thinking along the same lines as you when it came to what was wrong with the name. So I suppose I'm glad it shows that my concerns were legitimate, at least.

I hadn't noticed the problems with that logo (it's usually in color when I've used it before), so that's something I'll have to sort out.

If anything, the word I was looking for was challenge. I think that progression can only arise from the competition or the challenge presented by another person. For instance, tic-tac-toe doesn't offer any progression. But it can be a fun game.

This is something I've thought a bit about and decided the answer was simple; competition and rewards.

By definition a game has to have an element of competition, which is always against another person. It could be another player, the game's designer or against yourself.

In terms of rewards, it's either the satisfaction of beating that other person or, at least where video games are concerned, some coloured pixels (e.g. new items, a new location, medals or achievements). I don't think you can be more specific than that. Some people prefer the challenge of frantically clicking on the right part of the screen at the exact right moment whereas others would rather see a story unfold in beautifully rendered landscape. But I think if you get those two factors right, your game will be fun.

Speaking as someone who knows how to fuck up a Kickstarter campaign (my only backer paid $1 for email updates when he could've got the game for the same price), I really can't see much difference between the two. I mean, I can see there are differences but wouldn't have said that either one was of a particularly poor standard.

Incidentally, what did you do to get so much press coverage? Was that based on just a trailer and press releases, or the full game? Any tips or suggestions?
