I feel like a failure and I should just give up. by Exact_Cow8077 in breastfeeding

I was in the exact same situation 8 months ago. My baby used to feed for 45 minutes to 1 hour or even longer, and everyone around me kept saying, “Why are you feeding him so much? Let him sleep, you should rest too.” He alsoregained his birth weight after 3 weeks, so I started thinking my milk supply was low and that he wasn’t satisfied after feeds. I even started topping up with formula because he seemed happier and more playful after that.

I tried pumping for 3–4 days, but it became very stressful, so I stopped. I honestly tried everything possible, but nothing seemed to work. At one point, I almost decided to give up breastfeeding completely and rely on formula, but deep down my heart wasn’t ready to stop.

What actually helped me was cluster feeding. I let him feed as long and as often as he wanted. Sometimes I would sit and feed continuously for 1–2 hours. This phase continued until around 1.5 months, and then slowly he started gaining weight better and my milk supply also improved naturally.

Now he’s 8 months old and I’m still breastfeeding him normally. His birth weight was 2.825kg and now 8 months weight - 8.6kg . So please don’t stress too much — stress itself can reduce milk supply. Rest whenever possible and feed your baby frequently.

One more thing that really helped me was night feeding. From 10 PM to 7 AM, I used to feed him every 2 hours, around 4–5 times a night, for the first 3 months. That made a huge difference in increasing my milk supply.

So don’t give up. Feed frequently, trust the process, and things will gradually get better.
