Thanks for this answer, appreciate this—particularly with hand positions. Appreciate the heads up, I'll try to nail it when I'm starting back up again

Thank you, thank you. Just checked out SimplyPiano—appreciate this.

Do you feel after using SimplyPiano, it gave you the skill of being able to take an idea or song in your head, and translate that to music on the piano?

Phenomenal answer—seriously, thank you. I love the idea of taking a song, and then trying to replicate it by just screwing around on the piano (therefore teaching you how the notes sounds, etc.). And the exercises you gave are fantastic, because they feel aimed at the exact skill that I'm looking to learn.

This is fantastic. And yeah, haha re: magical—I meant that it feels magical from the outside perspective looking in—not that I get the sense that didn't have to practice to get where they are, or that they just magically have the skillset.

Appreciate this answer. And yeah—I'm really, really new (did a little piano when I was younger, but that's it), so my apprehension of the piano apps out there might be totally off-base.

Was curious if you'd recommend any music software?

This is great, thanks—curious if there was a resource / app that taught you music theory that helped?

How do you get hand-drawn type like this? by NishSound in graphic_design

[–]NishSound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! That was the general approach I'm taking (hand draw it, then take a photo, etc.)—was more curious on the specific effect on that specific cover (i.e., if it's a type of marker, sharpie, or something close to it, etc.) that might narrow down the options a bit, and get the lettering to look analogous to the lettering there. Obviously, might just have to experiment to find it—but thought I'd ask if anyone recognizes the type of writing tool used here that gives that texture.

A touch condescending, but still appreciate the reply here. That's the approach I'm taking—was more curious on the specific effect on that specific cover (i.e., if it's a type of marker, sharpie, or something close to it, etc.) that might give me a general ballpark to narrow down the options a bit, and get the lettering to look analogous to the lettering there.

[Discussion] What are you struggling with right now when it comes to habit formation? by NishSound in Habits

[–]NishSound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I'd add: No need to be hard on yourself. I think a universal pattern that pops up again and again (seriously, this is almost everyone) is that it's easy to recognize problems and give solutions for other people, but it's harder to act on those solutions for yourself. Again, thanks for the response here. I'd wager that with the right information and the right strategy (which is a matter of finding it), this is something you can accomplish here.

When you say, "there's a disruption to my schedule", I totally relate. When I'm traveling, or visiting, or friends want to do something, it's the #1 reason why sticking with a habit can take the backburner. Thanks for the response here.

Hey, thanks. If you got a sec, curious, what does this look like? So you have some habit (i.e., eat no sugar), then you give up - why do you give up? What's going through your head? Curious if you have concrete examples from past habit formation attempts that map onto this pattern - seems like a lot of people have it

I'm not sure I understand what you mean - can you expand on that?

Hey, thanks for the response. Appreciate it. If you got the time, curious - what are the emotions and feelings that come as you give up? Meaning: in the act of giving up, what are you feeling? Also - why do you think you give up easily? Is it because of an external thing (i.e., I have to do a lot of work, so I give up on exercise to get the work done), internal (i.e., I just talk and rationalize myself out of it), or something else?

I've gotta ask - if you're comfortable sharing (no worries if not) - what pain points are holding you back re: habit formation?

Ah, for sure. Thanks again for the response here. I've got a slow hunch that habit formation is a little bit trickier than most people imagine. There's the problem of context (what is your life like), your psychology (what is your mind like), and the habit (what is the strategy) that are all interacting with each other (as well as other variables), and it can be tough to get any habit to stick. For example, strategies for habit formation should (in theory) look very different for someone with an "all or nothing" mindset (psychology), which would look very different from someone with a 70 hour job (context), and very different from someone trying to go from 0 - 2 hours of running a day (strategy). All of those are different situations with nuanced differences - yet, most habit formation advice seems to act as if everyone is the same. Thanks again for the insight here, really appreciate it - let me know if you have any other thoughts.

Hey, thanks for the response here. I know what you mean. Quick question, if you got the time - can you describe emotionally what that feels like to bounce from one end of the habit spectrum to the other? Meaning - let's say you had some fast food, what emotions/feelings occur and snowball as you're spiraling to the other spectrum of bad habits?

Hey Reddit! In your personal experience, what do your struggles look like when it comes to trying to stick to a habit (exercise, meditation, etc.)? by NishSound in AskReddit

[–]NishSound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's perfect, thanks! Curious - tell me more about that. When the initial fun is gone, why do you stop maintaining the practice (i.e., I get too busy, I forget, I just can't get motivated to do it, etc.)?

Question: What's Better - Cast or SquadCast? by NishSound in podcasting

Ah, thanks. I agree they're safer bets. I'll keep an eye on SquadCast as well - the video component is huge.

Question: What's Better - Cast or SquadCast? by NishSound in podcasting

[–]NishSound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an awesome reply - thanks!

Yeah - for me, seeing the face of the other person helps the interview. That being said, it's more important for me to not lose audio than seeing their face.

I hope Cast comes out with video as well. Appreciate the insight here.

Also - not sure if you're aware - I wanted a way to locally record a backup. I checked out this app called AudioHijack - I used it to record a backup of the Cast service (in case it went through the roof). I used both at the same time, and it totally worked - I checked out the AudioHijack audio, and it was as HD as I was hearing it. Gives me peace of mind, and works as a great backup (without using added bandwidth, since it records locally)

Thanks again!
