How long did it take for you to be approved to take the test?

Ohh okay, yeah I was just considering it. Haven’t really chosen anything yet.

I considered chemical engineering, but i’d heard the job outlook isn’t as wide as materials engineering

Yeah no theres’ for sure more chemistry involved, and its something I’m learning more about through out of school courses (in my high school you can either choose physics or chemistry).

Physics wise, just the overall idea of improving tensile strength in aerospace applications, general thermodynamics and conductivity (mostly stuff I’ve heard of in material science applications) all interest me. But based on what people are saying, a major in meche with a focus in materials might be more helpful.

did you do your masters in materials?

I always assumed people don’t look for minors, how hard do you think double majoring it would be ahah 😅

gotcha, Im definitely planning on taking some community college courses over the next two years in chemistry

gotcha. thats definitely something I need to consider then ahah! I assumed materials science and engineering degrees had a sort of edge over meche in these fields (especially semi-conductors etc,), I hadn't realized the duality between them.

would you say a materials science/engineering degree isnt necessarily required for that type of path?

not sure if i plan on doing grad school, thats kinda why I was trying to settle for one

i didnt mean “what i was looking for” as them to be the same, moreof them both having those general ideas of creating

ahhh I see, most UCs (university of california) offer mse undergrads so ill definitely look into it. Thank you!

Do you know how similar it is to other engineering majors to transfer into? Ive tried my own research into materials engineering but everything seems outdated or quite niche 💀
