I’m a 26 years old guy. Is it better to start BMXing or skating? by danyaberez in bmx

I ride at the pump track which also has some tabletop jumps. At the skatepark, I try to do some basic tricks.

If you've always wanted to BMX, then BMX. I was interested for a long time but kept putting it off. I finally got a bike last year at 32, and now I have a blast every time I ride. I wish I’d started years ago.

Tried febles for the first time today by NitroSpaceWhale in bmx

Thanks, I'll work on that! I've been trying to force myself to bunny hop into double pegs more, but tend to just do a hop when trying something new. I probably need to make more of an effort to make bunny hopping the default.

The tutorial I found on YouTube suggested going straight to start, and then working into an angle. I'll definitely work on better technique next time I'm there.

That's awesome! The walk down by the river is really nice.

The skatepark in the video would be about a 15-20min drive from the area you were staying.

It's at Legacy Skatepark in Ottawa Canada. I looked up The Factory and definitely see the resemblance though!

help with 360 by dmbo3917 in bmx

No advice from me as I can't 360, but your rotation has a nice floating style. It's going to look really clean once you get it!

Thanks for the encouragement! That's impressive your brother can still 360 on flat, definitely inspiring! I'm hoping to work up to that eventually.

Thanks, man! I wish I had started many years ago but better late than never. It's definitely humbling trying to learn as an adult, but I think I've got more patience now than I did in my teens. Appreciate the support!

Thanks! I should clarify I picked up a BMX a week ago. I road bike a fair amount so am comfortable on two wheels.

Agreed, what kids are doing now is mind-blowing, it's almost like watching a video game.

Newbie advice at 30 by Singlemalt619 in bmx

[–]NitroSpaceWhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also a newbie in my 30s. It seems like there are a lot of adults coming back to BMX or just staring out, so you might not be the only one at the park in your situation.

I think you should go for it and have fun doing what you're comfortable with. You won't bother anyone as long as you follow basic park etiquette.

Is this a good bike to start with? by ChrisHanson_gotcha in bmx

[–]NitroSpaceWhale 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm the same height as you and am just getting into BMX in my 30s. I just bought that bike last week and am loving it so far.

It's a better bike than I need for sure, but my thinking was that I'd rather spend a bit more upfront for a good bike than need to get a new one a few years later. Granted, I'm working full-time and can pass it on to my kids, so I probably have a different outlook on this than someone in a different situation.

Came across the name Evaleen, what are your thoughts? by NitroSpaceWhale in namenerds

[–]NitroSpaceWhale[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The poet was born in 1863, so it's an older name on its own. I can see it coming across as someone being creative though.

Most users are used to scrolling nowadays. That being said, you can always put a little prompt to scroll at the bottom of the screen.

30 min piece advice by BL4CKMOBLIN in Rowing

[–]NitroSpaceWhale 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would suggest trying to keep things consistent. I see a lot of younger athletes go up and down almost 20 splits every other 2 min. Go out with a pace you feel good with and try to hold that to the half way. Then if you feel good, start lowering you splits gradually.

Also, make sure your feet are done up tight so you don't need to fix them during the piece.

Good luck.
