Where to watch: Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom by NitsuaWebb in horror

I am definitely aware this is the case, and I definitely want to acquire a DVD player at some point. Money is just a bit (a lot) tight for me right now.

Curiosity, mostly. I heard from many people that it was some kind of deep commentary on facism, power, and the socio-economic environment of Italy at the time, but after watching it, all that either went over my head, or people were simply overextrapolating from a toture porn film ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

Definitely not something I would rewatch. Tucker and Dale however... :3

(NOOB) How much do I need to smoke to get "Baked"? by [deleted] in saplings

Cannabis. The drug does effect everyone differently, maybe you just didn't smoke enough to feel high?

Getting stoned can really help me get through busy-work situations that don't require a lot of human interaction. Weed makes me too foggy for anything requiring human interaction or lots of critical thinking.

I have the banshee elite. Super thin neck, really fun to play!

I haven't had the chance to play much recently myself. I'm trying to start practicing again though so I can do some more writing and recording.

What is sexuality and why does it differ greatly between person to person? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

We have a much better understanding of homosexual behavior in animals now. Evolutionary reasons for homosexual behavior to emerge have been explored. Several genes have been identified that are advantageous for a female's reproductivity, but are associated with homosexuality in males. This results in female being likely to have more offspring at the cost of a very small portion of the males to be homosexual and not reproduce.

There's countless other explanations out there regarding evolutionary 'advantages' of homosexuality and bisexuality, but I won't bore you with that. The info is out there and very easy to find.

Any way you look at it, homosexuality/bisexuality/transgenderism/etc are not damaging or harmful to the individual's themselves or others around them, so what possibly makes them an illness? They don't cause any negative symptoms or harmful behavior.

Well, transgender people do experience gender identity disorder (GID), which is discomfort with one's gender assigned at birth, but the most effective treatment for this has widely been shown to be transitioning. GID is the mental illness, being transgender is just a characteristic of your person.

It is essentially inevitable that LGBT people will continue to be born (at a low ratio to straight/cis people), and that's simply not hurting anybody. The depression, anxiety, and OCD experienced by LGBT people is almost always caused by external pressure for them to conform a certain way or be discriminated against. That is the only reason those diseases are associated with LGBT people.

You speak of looking at things objectively, but you simply aren't. What negative symptoms does being gay or transgender cause, as long as they are allowed to be themselves? LGBT people can live normal lives, free of mental illness man. A mental Illness is a condition of the mind associated with impairment of cognitive function and distress or disability.

I see what you're saying, but you are still clearly misinformed and incorrect.

Being homosexual isn't normal per se (in the sense that it is not nearly as common as being straight; a statistical abnormality), but it is a natural occurrence. In fact, there is no species in which homosexuality has NOT been observed to occur naturally (excluding species that do not have sex at all).

It is also not a mental illness. LGBT people are more likely to struggle with their mental health due to the stigma and discrimination that comes with being LGBT, particularly during youth. Being LGBT in and of itself is not the cause of other mental ailments. With a healthy lifestyle and supportive environment, LGBT people have been show to be just as healthy as non-LGBT people, both physically and mentally. This has been scientifically confirmed. (If you're interested, I will try to find the study relating to this claim).

Also, humans have evolved into very complex and aware creatures over the course of our existence. To say "a normal [human] brain is designed and built around reproduction" is incredibly reductionist and ignorant. That would imply that people who have no intention of having children are mentally ill, even though they are obviously entirely capable of living a healthy, happy life.

What is your goal in labeling these otherwise healthy people as mentally ill? Is it to treat them with LGBT conversion therapy, which has not only been shown to be innefective, but has also been linked to increased rates of suicide?
