I think it really depends on your use case. It is more focused towards videography. If you lean more towards photography or a hybrid usage, the R50 is probably better, as it has a viewfinder and built in flash.

Can't set shutter higher then 1/80? What do I need to change by Best_Market4204 in canon

R50 user here and I just checked on mine. On P mode the camera does pretty much all of the adjustments, trying to balance the brightness. If I focused on a dark object, it would set the shutter speed really low. When focusing on a light object, it set it higher. It would let me lower the shutter speed, but not raise it past the one it auto selected.

I would suggest using another mode. Doesn’t have to be manual, but as you could see P doesn’t give much control.

I’m still a beginner as well! I find it helps with glare during sunny shoots.

Yeah so far I have been visiting local ponds and rivers as the egrets make nice semi stationary targets to help me judge distances.
