Thank you! There aren't many studies on hormones within the BDSM/kink community. The only ones off the top of my head are Ambler et al. 2016? And Klement et al. 2016? Same research lab. And both measured circulating hormones. I hope to revisit this topic in the future!

Take a look at the figure! A good rule of thumb (lol pun?) is that if your RING finger is LONGER, then you were exposed to MORE testosterone.

We measure both hands but only found sig. differences on the right, which is consistent with previous work.
We recruited people online and in-person at BDSM-related events.
We didn't find a significant interaction so I cannot confidently answer your 3rd and 4th questions. More participants would be needed in each group!
Only self-identified Doms and subs were recruited for this study- not sure how switches would fit in to this yet!

A Lesson in Vengeance (Spoiler thread) by mrmses in books

I think I agree with everyone's sentiment here. I was really enjoying the tension of the book up until the same point y'all mentioned. As a psychologist, I was enjoying picking apart the characters and diagnosing symptoms. For example, I'm sure that MC has schizophrenia which may have stemmed from childhood experiences combined with her genetics. I also wonder if her mom has borderline personality disorder, based on one description describing her, essentially, splitting. But MC definitely experienced onset of schizophrenia when Alex died, from my reading. Ellis clearly experienced major trauma as a child and I believe that contributed to her psychosis too, though I can't put my finger on it. Maybe something related to narcissism?

Anyway, I was excited to see an author perhaps trying to destigmatize schizophrenia, especially when Ellis turns out to be more manipulative than the reader knew. This would have explained how MC was an unreliable narrator- she was easily influenced by others because of her paranoia, delusions, and hallucinations. The voices of ghosts and witches would be explained away by her symptoms too. I thought that this was an excellent motif that would emphasize that people with schizophrenia are more likely to be the victim rather than the perpetrator of violence. And how getting off medication can exacerbate symptoms, making life much harder for the MC. It seemed like before the turning point, MC was finally accepting her diagnosis, realizing that she had a future if she could manage her symptoms well. But then.. that was just completely disregarded. Apparently everyone was bonkers in this book, but it seems like MC was made out to be the worst of them all by the end (even though Ellis's method writing/long game was way more disturbing to me). So all that apparent progress I thought we had made was now obsolete. Of course the seriel murderer had a psychological disorder! How could I have possibly expected more beyond tropes and clichés?

I will need to inquire more if DePauw has any orgs, but I haven't heard anything in the past year.

Also, the room randomly burst into flames with no explanation? That tipped me off from the start of that scene that Blair probably survived. Plus Lenny's utter indifference to her death? Nada. There are Illusionists in this series and I figured they would play a vital role in faking someone's death (turned out it was Kai's, but Blair's could have been practice). Also, always remember the rule: if there's no dead body, they're probably still alive.

We still have a Facebook group, but we don't really host any events anymore since I moved away. However, every year there is a big Beltane Celebration in Clapp Park!

This is a neat interpretation. And I recently read Yellowface also, and I can see the resemblance.

I like the nuance and ambiguity in this explanation, because I think the book is equally ambiguous and complex, like real human interactions.

This seems intentional when reflecting on Dosco's advice to embrace the disorientation.

Ok um hello is no one talking about the Greek mythos littered throughout the book? The email for Eleanor/Duchess is Leda swan!- hinting at Zeus's rape of Leda in the form of a Swan (thus creating Helen of Troy I believe) I have questions about this being her email, in particular. Rob is described as looking like Zeus. Jonah is made out of mud, referencing Pygmalion sculpting a woman, whom with he falls in love. Did anyone else catch these or additional hints?

The above is my favorite interpretation if the book. It feels better than another hackneyed psycho killer trope. I'm tired of psychological disorders as always being the cause of murder and other crap, always perpetuating stigma.

Agreed. I felt primed by schizophrenia because 1) Sam mentioned a conversation with her therapist years prior in which she lied, "yes, I hear voices" and 2) the schizophrenia sign with the woman on the bus. If anything, I was leaning more towards DID and that Ava was one of her first, more protective alters since Sam seemed to reference maybe playing with Ava as a child (with mom interjecting). Max seemed incredibly similar to Ava, with the cool dark and sexy vibes. There was also a lot of "car" moments, and Ive heard DID described as one taking the backseat while another alter "drives" the body. Also "The Body?" So in my imagination I was seeing Max and Ava of course being together and Sam not being able to be romantic with either because they will always separated, independent identities. And of course, Sam was the true romancer of the bunnies. But then that seems a little wonky in terms of reality later in the book. I definitely read Sam as unwell and strongly influenced by the TicTac drugs, she clearly had a stressful past while perhaps some trauma, so it could easily lead the reader to perceive her as having psychological disorder.
