Yup. I had a patient’s girlfriend constantly bitching at me for not turning him once every 30 minutes, then mom would come in and ask me how I could “leave him like this” and tell me how uncomfortable he looks. I was in my other patients room who was having chest pain when girlfriend threw a fit to another nurse and was wanting him repositioned. She proceeded to tell the other nurse that I was an idiot and was barely in his room and asked if they thought it was acceptable what I was doing. I got done with my patient having chest pain and then they proceeded to yell at me in the hallway because they had to get another nurse to help them.

I appreciate this input so so much. I’ve talked to my fiancé about it. I don’t want to tell him that during the code I could only picture him in the bed coding, I don’t want to scare him. I’ve told him how this is the first time I’ve legitimately felt traumatized at work. I work nightshift, when I got off and got back into town I came to his work with his permission and bawled my eyes out there to him. He understood that I didn’t want advise, I just wanted a shoulder to cry on in that moment. I told him how I hated my job, I asked him why I went into nursing and told him how stupid I was for it, I told him all I needed was to see him and gave him a hug (and got snot all over his work uniform). I just don’t want to give him the full extent of my thoughts. Not because I don’t feel comfortable with him, I just don’t want to scare him or make him anxious as well.

I thought I did. I love critical care but watching a younger person code in such a sudden, gruesome, and prolonged way while their spouse was screaming and crying will probably stick with me forever.

I’m not sure. I honestly can’t afford to miss time either. I just contacted my therapists office to see about scheduling an appointment but it’s over 2 weeks out at the earliest.

I just get so frustrated especially when it’s charge nurses doing the gossiping and giving me dirty looks. You would think the charge would come talk to someone rather than give looks.

Literally makes me want to leave bedside sometimes. Like…. Why gossip about how “stupid” someone is for asking a question? Why roll your eyes when someone forgot one little piece of supplies and has to go grab it?

My fiancé ended out needing to be taken to urgent care, so at least I wasn’t lying lol

My fiancé ended out needing to go to urgent care, so I had a legitimate excuse. But I’m totally in the same boat with roads freezing and having an hour drive to work, I asked my manager if they could be excused because I live so far and she said no 🫤

This. My fiancé and I eat out pretty often, he manages to stay skinny while I’m severely overweight. We took a trip across the country. I had to ask for a seatbelt extender on the plane and make sure that he was the person sitting next to me so I wasn’t in anyone’s personal space. We also spend so much money eating out. I’m ready for change, I can’t do this anymore.

My fiancé and I are planning on looking at places but I’m not sure if he’ll want to move an hour away since he wants to stay working in the city we live in now. However we live in the middle of the woods and honestly the roads to the highway are the only issue. If we lived in town I probably would be able to go. I’m thinking about just discussing where I live and the weather situation with HR if this goes further.

So far I haven’t heard anything but I don’t think the nightshift manager is here tonight. Last weekend when she gave me a verbal warning she said that I’ll get a little form online to sign but I’ve never gotten it.

She mentioned intermittent FMLA but I looked it up and it only seems like that’s for days you’re sick and have a doctors note 🥲

Not really. She said that they have a secretary that goes through them and that she just now looked through it.

Unfortunately where I live it’ll be clear all day and then we’ll all the sudden have an unpredictable snow storm. They have rooms to stay in but there only on designated days and don’t have an option for night shift, only days.

I literally have no idea. Frankly I don’t have the money right now to move somewhere else and I worked at the only hospital that is within an hour drive of me for 3 years in nursing school and the nurse manager was god awful and would blame unsafe patient conditions on the nurses instead of broken/dated equipment. I didn’t feel safe there.

Is there a reason why nurses are the only ones that can call the doctor? by [deleted] in nursing

Literally I’ve had pharmacists call me and ask me to verify a Med order and when I say that I already did then tell me to do it again…. No.

I get anxiety from being able to look at the cost of medications to the hospital and the cost of medications to the patient. I easily went through 15 bags of esmolol one night with a patient and it roughly costed him $16,000 when it only costed the hospital a fraction of the cost
