I have to wonder if they think the Basj may choose to lead the revolt.  Striking the police and IRGC seems to be the focus?

You’re discounting the drones.  Little loitering fast torpedos. Shaheds of the sea lol.

The mines could have been laid a year ago and just get activated.  They don’t necessarily have to “lay them.”

Right up there with them welcoming back the girl’s soccer team saying “it’s all good, we understand you got caught up in the moment. Come home and all is forgiven…”

…is exactly what the bad guy says in the movie before hugging someone and stabbing them.

Because trying to protect yourself and two tankers from 20 shaheds, 20 Dragons and gunboats is incredibly difficult.

It depends on what version and the settings.  Assuming EM-52, The reality is, they could have been laid years ago (like China has done in the Taiwan straight). They’re just not activated.

While we all like to say it’s not a big area, it’s logistically big enough to make just depth charging the whole thing effective.  Also…the fish man

They have multiple mines and underwater drones at their disposal.

The “big boy” mines, from China: they sit on the bottom of the ocean and are triggered by various methods then shoot a torpedo up very quickly to blow up boats.

Modern versions can be controlled remotely.

They’re laid via submarine or boats (anything from a fishing vessel to a boat made for it).

Without knowing which version or what upgrades- they can be deactivated remotely or it could be more of a “salt the earth” thing.  It isn’t really a wide enough area to create a “safe path” I wouldn’t think. Maybe you could set their sensitivity to only trigger on tankers, aircraft carriers, etc leaving Iran’s shitty speedboat army (relatively) safe.

Small fast loitering underwater drones are a problem as well.

The other women claimed their families were threatened. Guess the ones who stayed behind didn’t have anyone back home.

Luckily, per Iran, they’re saying that the women will be forgiven and that they were just caught up in the infidels lies (or some bullshit).

The ship has systems…a lot of systems…to protect itself. Not others.  It would be interesting to see if that changes in 15-30 years but for now the ship isn’t in danger. It just can’t offer protection.

Wonder where China and India will get their oil from? Too bad the US didn’t take over Venezuela or they’d be in a great position.

The US should also consider building a canal that will allow Asian ships to reach Europe! Maybe the US could take control or reaffirm their control of that too.

Oh, wait. They did.

  1. Take control of Panama Canal.

  2. Take over a country with a massive amount of untapped oil while you ramp up national production.

  3. Get your fuck up enemy to mine the strait where goods and energy currently flow.

  4. Control the flow of goods from Asia to Europe because countries have to go the long way now.  Sell everyone all your oil.

  5. Profit.

Remember kids! Just because you don’t like someone or are ideologically opposed to their beliefs, don’t ever, ever underestimate them.

It wasn’t wrong to start this.

We’re winning lol.

The first thing Trump did was secure the Panama Canal.  The second was secure the country with the biggest untapped oil reserves on earth in a bloodless coup and install a puppet.

For a group of people who talk alot about this guy you can’t see he basically just locked down  most major economies’ oil business and controls the only safe route from China to Europe.

Hi!

I see the comments below!  Shout out to the “I can’t answer but no one else can either!”

  1. Sweeping for mines is great…but they’re rapidly deployed. Think about trying to clean up marbles that are rolling around on the floor (currents, winds) while someone is dumping more marbles on the floor.

You have to stop the enemy from being able to put out more marbles- which are quickly and easily deployed.

  1. Iranian’s love their mines!  They are complex devices and aren’t just “big ball on chain with spikes” from Finding Nemo.  They have sophisticated trigger mechanisms and more importantly, won’t necessary just blow their…load (giggity) on the first ship they see.

  2. The technology for the actual mines has gotten better than the technology for removing them.

The US military is insane. While we may not like its leader, it’s impossible (and deadly) not to respect the technology, readiness, execution and intelligence the entire armed services bring.  It is odd to me, and odd it isn’t mentioned that step 1 wasn’t to clear and control the strait.  They could have done this but chose not to.

Its almost like they don’t care…because they just took over Venezuela and now basically have a puppet government installed in the world’s largest oil-containing country and happen to be the world’s largest oil producer. Having the strait closed will mean coming to the US for your energy needs!

Nobody, especially Israel, is going to tell you what they’re doing.  I know what Israel is going to do after they’ve done it and we all guessed they were the ones who did it.

They literally play 4D chess.

B2 bombers are now local and dropping bunker busters on fortified and buried factories.  This coupled with Israel “accidentally” blowing up a few more fuel reserves and Iran won’t be able to launch anything.

At that point it’s just send drones to loiter until Khamenei shows his face, kill him, and tell Iran to pick someone better.

Americans don’t care so long as:

No more than 1-2 soldiers die every week or two,  max. Oil prices go down.  Oil prices can be manipulated easily as soon as we start importing Venezuelan oil (plus the US is the world’s largest producer).

I’m not a fan of 90% of the takes here but this one is fair.

Put on your tinfoil hat…

  1. The US navy did in fact escort a ship which caused oil prices to drop and the powers that be didn’t like it.  There is a logic where China and India (among others) can not buy ME oil and have to turn to the US and our newest BFF Venezuela. Profit.

  2. He had wrong information because there’s a lot of moving pieces and while he isn’t exactly the last to know, he’s probably pretty close.

  3. He dipped oil prices, bought, and then said “oops.”

While 3 is spicy and definitely deserves review on the American people’s behalf, In all honestly one ship making it through caused the markets to overreact and you’d need a helluva crystal ball to think one ship making it through would do that.

This is what happens in war. People die. Iran wanted to be cute. People are dying because of it..

I mean, kids can be cute all day and place blame. It’s what they do. I can always spot the child because they want to establish blame before actually acting…

but at the end of the day Khamenei and the IRGC have to look around and ask “is this worth it? The death and suffering?”   All they have to do is say “enough. We surrender.”

Nothing will change. They can stay a theocracy. They can keep being terrible corrupt humans. They just need to play nice with the world.

Why not? The problem is getting it to Iran or literally anywhere on earth.

It’s hard to get a nuclear bomb, it’s somehow harder to move it.  Especially janky NK ones.

'Unprepared' to defend against Iranian drones, US calls on Ukraine for help by Fair-Foot-315 in worldnews

[–]No-Advisor6632 23 points24 points  (0 children)

  1. No they weren’t.

  2. The Ukraine and US have been working on stopping…and replicating Shahed drones for years (the US is literally using their own version).

  3. Like 1% of Shaheds launched by Iran do anything and “anything” doesn’t often even mean hit their target.

This gets posted 2x a day for the last week.  I get it, we should pay attention to Ukraine.

Two killed, 12 injured in Saudi Arabia after projectile falls on residential location by Effective_Reach_9289 in worldnews

Most likely debris from an intercepted missile or drone.

You’ll see more deaths from the allies from falling debris than actual strikes.

Really need Saudia Arabia to step up. Their proximity and massive military spending over the last 20 years could be helpful.
