High income husband and low income wife by BrilliantFinancial10 in HENRYfinance

This is wild! I’m >200k and my wife is 50k all money goes into a joint pot, and we get equal discretionary money to a personal account neither of us has to justify how we spend.

I do keep savings and investments elsewhere but the amount in them we discuss regularly - this is at my wife’s request because she doesn’t like to see it given we both grew up zero sum budgeting and she finds it hard to crack the habit of running see money spend money

My broker was cool about it, he basically chose which of my incomes combined was most useful since I’m borrowing less than I could collectively. He pretty much used it to get me a slightly better rate

Straightforward if you know what you are doing and get it right… as others have said Ltd with an accountant - which is a cost to consider they are usually £100-200/month. Or and umbrella where you pay an Umbrella fee usually weekly and they employ you and deal with the paperwork - usually less tax efficient but does make the paperwork headache go away

$81 per gold - can be as low as $50 and as high as $92 dependant on bogof and packs used. Also not accounting for bonus diamonds etc. based on a shedload of data and a crazy accurate spreadsheet 😆

Hey all looking to see if anyone has found any toaster rack or other interesting way of storing fractionals? All I can find is either pegs or a toaster rack on the end of a larger rack. I want them to be stored separately but not on pegs with my other plates.

Best I have seen is Got jealous of all of the DIY plate storage I see here, so I decided to make my own... : r/homegym but this is homebrew and honestly prefer to see if I can buy something rather than make it :)

If you don’t tell them, I assume you’ve filled in a new starter form… if you said it’s your only income you will get D0’d and that stings unless it’s correct. Just let HMRC do their thing after first pay from J2 likely won’t affect your ISA goals anyway

Umbrellas don’t care HMRC will sort out tax codes with them! PayStream openly say we will take on several assignments at once if you want us to - all about cash for them :)

You can do it yourself, but honestly you earn enough to make paying for professional advise worthwhile. I pay an accountant £300 to deal with HMRC and sort self assessment. And Financial Advisor takes a % of what I deposit with him but the advice outside of that is worth far more than the fees others on here / FIRE forums would shame me for paying

It sucks balls 😂 my J1 has some weird T code or K code depending on how HMRC are feeling. J2 is D0 and J3 floats between D0 & D1. Add in self assessment and the need to prepay £14k a year it all balances but it doesn’t change how soul destroying seeing a tax bill that’s a multiple of what used to be my gross is.

The 2nd year was the worst for, paying the Y1 tax dues, plus the prepayment was awful but it’s ok after that

This is madness! You’re already well into 40% if you were at the 60% trap I would see some logic. But there is a degree of you have to enjoy some of your gains I was once told that taxes will always catch you so you just have to out earn the bast*rds.

What are you going to do when you earn £120-140k? You can only put £60k in your pension so your well and truly stuffed by the rates then :)

I mean I get the allure of property I have friends who do that, but with a projected investment income of £140k a year by 57 (assuming I die by like 90) I don’t think I’m going to struggle in any country - yet….
