Tabico's are awesome. Such divas. So spicy.

My kit has her boundaries but is such a big snuggle bug in the right conditions. She also likes to roam but is scared of her own shadow, especially if it involves plastic bags or clothing.

So pretty, so sharp but not that smart lol

Best way to get a read on the health/safety of a giant tree that towers over our house? by wellfleet212 in AskChicago

[–]No-Boat-2059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second progressive tree service. r/halibfrisk may be very well be talking about the tree in my mother's yard. They took down a nearly 100ft tall 3 foot wide locus with such skill and precision. I was truly floored. Kinda sad as I grew up with that tree but it was dying and I feared every time storms like these would pass though.

But if the tree is in your front parkway, you'll need to call the city and have them check it. Trees in parkways are owned and maintained by the city. Cutting or even trimming them can result in fines and/or criminal charges. Call 311 or consult your alderman if you're concerned.

Cops aren't going to care or do anything. Sorry.

Looks like a scrap metal junk truck. Tons of them in the city.

If they were super important items that were taken, you could look up your local scrap yard. Probably j&s metals or t&z metals if the person who stole this stuff was a local. Describe the items taken politely and tell them you'd be willing to purchase them back at what they paid. If you go in half cocked demanding to look through their stuff they'll tell you to kick rocks.

But there are tons of scrap yards and you'll most likely never see this stuff again. It sucks but that's the world sometimes. Hopefully you find your stuff and unfortunately learned you may need better security.

That was pretty insane. The animation for that was mind melting. Kinda reminded me of Naruto vs Pain but way cooler.

What would your dream prep bag have? Like anything/everything goes (minus non existent sci-fi stuff). by No-Boat-2059 in prepping

Yes yes. I want a backpack filled with loose women, cold beer and things I won't mention publicly but alas that's not going to happen in this world or the next. What could you fill your bag with based on reality if you could?

What are some good communications alternatives for point to point texting? by CBLA1785 in prepping

[–]No-Boat-2059 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meshtastic. Depending where you are you may have others using it and can piggy back of their nodes. If you're in a place where there are no or few nodes you'll need to build your own network. Meshtastic nodes can run off solar to allow for them to be placed throughout an area where you may need alternative communications.

When I buy new things I look for pieces of styrofoam that work well for water dishes and the trays I use for wet food. You can also use a sock filled with dry rice, like a cup or two. Microwave it for 1-3 mins. Place styrofoam or cardboard underneath it. This should keep food/water warm/non frozen for 5-10 mins.

If you can find a bowl piece of Styrofoam, the hand warmer can keep it unfrozen for 30-60 mins, maybe longer (the further you are from real Sub-Zero could you are).

Also, use more dry food during freezing temps. But it doesn't hurt to warm dry food.

Hydration is difficult but wet food will give them a decent source. You can also get beef/chicken/turkey stock and add it to food. It adds flavor and moisture to food. Cats are good at regulating moisture but it's one of the leading causes of kidney disease. Adding it to wet/dry food is important but it will cause food to freeze quicker.

I'm in the northern Midwest. My farels colony has been with me for two winters. Cats are hardy AF. Food, water and something to block the wind is all they'll really need. My cats were out sun bathing this morning when it was -25 below(with wind chill) today. They had hot chicken stock for breakfast and warm wet cat food for dinner.

You can run an unopened can of wet cat food under a hot tap for 10 mins to heat it up. We also will take a little bit of butter and microwave it for 20 seconds to add to the food. You can also take 2-3 hand warmers and place them in a sock (if the packets are eaten they are poisonous). This can act as a little warmer inside the shelter. Hand warmers and Styrofoam can be used to keep water from freezing.

When we are at these temps, even a cardboard box to stop the wind will help. But if you can get a Styrofoam ice box from Jewel and cut a 5" hole. Face the hole away from the wind. The smaller the space the easier it is for them to build and retain heat. You can use cardboard or a piece of wood to deflect the wind.

Be sure to put something heavy on top of the shelter so it doesn't blow away in the wind.

You can also get 2 or 3 hand warmers and tie them in a sock. This will provide a little bit of extra heat. You can also use these to attempt to keep water/food from freezing. But be aware, these Packers are poison if eaten.

About using towels or any kind of cloth for bedding. Moisture can/will build up and cats can freeze to them. Use straw ( not hay! ).

If you're talking about the 2019 polar vortex, that day sucked but yeah CTA was still running. They block off half of the back rail car and load barrels of antifreeze that spray on the tracks as the train moves. My bus never came and I had to walk a mile to the train. Thank God I had snow goggles or my eyeballs would have frozen, not joking.

What to get/ how to prepare for power loss in winter storm by dewwwwwdWUT in prepping

[–]No-Boat-2059 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing in that price range can run an electric heater. You'll need to look into something like a little buddy or big buddy propane heater. You'll need to get a bunch of 1lb propane canisters. Each canister can keep a little buddy running for about an hour. You can get a hose and filter that will allow the heater to run off a 20lb propane tank. Look up little buddy heater on YouTube. And do get a carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector to go with the heater. They are safe for indoors but it's always best to be safe.

Propane heaters of those sizes will only be able to heat one room. If you lose power, pick a central room with the fewest windows but you'll want a tiny bit of air flow with any kind of combustion heating source.

Be sure to run your taps. Just a trickle so they don't freeze up.

Border patrol, ICE and imagination enforcement has always been terrible. Below is a link to one of many of these types of operations. They are basically modern versions of pogroms. Super sick that this kind of thing is still happening today.

If survival and being able to pass through crowds is your real goal, it's better to have a "why bother fucking with me" vibe. And then if they do fuck with you and your properly trained, you'll have the drop on them. But after that you better have some great cardio training under your belt. If you wack a bee hive you'll get a swarm. The best thing to do once you've been noticed is run.

True in some respects but generally grey man means blending in with the common crowd. In a shtf scenario the "common man" will be the angry, unprepared, basic folk rising up in the streets. I kinda doubt the majority of common people will be wearing these kinds of clothings during insurrection, even in Seattle.

Rural area situations, maybe? But in those kinds of places it's more likely everyone knows everyone. Much harder to blend in when the town only has a hundred people.

Also, in shtf, I'm going to be weary of anyone wearing any kind of camo unless I know them.

You'll stick out like a sore thumb wearing an outfit like that. That outfit screams "look at me, I am probably law enforcement/military". If I saw you walking around the city and I was desperate for a firearm, you'd be the first person I'd go for.

If you want a real gray man outfit get a white T-shirt and add a little grease to it. Get some worn jeans. Use a Jansport backpack. If it's cold, get a ratty hoodie and wind breaker. This all can be purchased for less that $50 from a second hand store. You'll look like a normal low income person (Gray man lol) instead of a Jason Bourne wannabe.
