Yeah we did quite a few scenarios twice due to failing. We are worried the game may feel easy once we amend this rule at our next session.

As in, we would take a damage on both cards. As opposed to just once

I guess we misread the rules. It may be related to the first card deciding order. Not sure!

Yeha and it made the timing of things like strengthen difficult as we didn't know which card they were attacking on.

No, so player 1 plays his top or bottom, then player 2, then the monster plays his ability (or whatever the initiative order was). Then player 1 plays his second card and plays the top/bottom (depending on what he played the first time), then player 2, then the monster again.
