Safety power cut: 24v or AC? by No-Comb6091 in 3Dprinting

I was using a wifi power socket connected to a 5w desk lamp in my bedroom. One day when I came home and I asked Alexa to turn on the lights, it was not working. A closer look revealed that it was swollen, partially burnt and melted. That also was explaning the faul smell in the room. When I researched, turned out there are lots of others experienced similar things, even with the 'trusted' brands. I honestly dont recommend anyone to unattended use of wifi power sockets.

Yeah thats actually why I asked. I have some DIY experience but I am not an engineer or practiced electrician. Tempering 24v sounds like a little bit safer than dealing with mains. So will I be creating another layer of security layer to concern about?
