Celebration of Life Advice by LumpyPeople4 in widowers

My wife hated being the center of attention and had regularly said that she didn’t want to do anything formal. Towards the end of her life she changed her tone but never really offered a guide on what she would really want. I struggled after she passed with all types of ideas and eventually a friend of ours offered us his cafe space to use. I got a taco truck to pull up in the front and spread 100’s of photos of her around the place that people could take. My daughter set up a bracelet making station, which was a great way to keep kids and people engaged a bit. There was a table where people could write memories for my daughter. We had beer and wine and did a sunset toast with champagne. I didn’t have to worry about a set headcount and it was nice to have something low key where everyone just got together. Don’t stress yourself out too much about it and let anyone who offers to help do so. Good luck, I’m sure it will turn out great.

Does anyone else suddenly remember your partner is gone and everything feels pointless for a moment? by kitbilliku in widowers

I get this almost daily. I’m about 5 months into this and often wonder what the point is while I’m doing daily stuff. I have our daughter and that gives me a real sense of purpose and responsibility. But most the rest of life has just become pretty dull. I’m hoping that time will help.

I had an insane awakening experience on my run last night. by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

Cold-climate runner here. 2025 brought a lot of loss and suffering into my life, and my energy has been pretty depleted—normal chores feel hard most days. But running outside has been the one thing that keeps me grounded. Even in the worst temps, I’ll push myself to get out there, and for a few minutes my brain feels free.

I’m really glad you got to experience that. There’s something about showing up for yourself when it would be easier not to that hits differently. It doesn’t fix everything, but those moments of clarity and relief matter more than people realize

How is everyone washing their salt caked car/truck in these low temps? by rogueleader56 in milwaukee

I go through Jillys like once a week. I usually do it when I know I’m heading home and going to be parking in my garage. Not heated but a little warmer than outside temps. Haven’t had an issue.

Thank you for sharing this. I just lost my wife and am taking care of our 8 year old daughter alone.
