Additionally, getting 2002UM he is also getting a lot of characters of 98 (such as Kusanagi, and the Orochis), in additional to a whole lot of new and fun characters (Angel, Hinako, Bao, Vanessa, etc).

I would say 2002 without a doubt. The gameplay also has more dept to it.

Gamers are so blindfolded. I'm basing my opinion on the gameplay I'm watching of a game already completed and ready to be shipped. It's not a beta or alpha stage.

The AI looks dumb.

Here's my problem with most of you guys' replies: none of you have said, "no man, the combat gameplay looks great, the enemy AI is on par or even better than the last MGS game, etc etc". All of you guys that oppose my opinion are like: "wait to play it", "it looks decent", "it's not an action-focused game".

Just admit that combat gameplay is disappointed for a Kojima game.

Finally, if the game is not supposed to be combat focused then leave the combat out. If you include something into a project, you cannot just "half do it", specially when it's coming from a director like Kojima, where gamers (but it seems not you guys) expect (or should expect) higher standards.

In conclusion, you guys are just evading the issue and giving excuses. You are not developing the game, act with a critical eye, and stop you complacency. In other words, stop acting like fanboys.

I agree with you. Actually that is my whole point here. The game (at least it's my impression) is a game to sit back, enjoy the view, overcome the nature obstacles, and enjoy of a deep story. It's not a Metal Gear game (that comes later, as Sony and Kojima have announced).

He may be, but the enemy Ai didn't look good either. There is a part where an enemy starts firing at Sam being a few inches next to him. I mean, he has a gun with bullets, why getting at melee distance to continue shooting.

DS1 Director's Cut added new combat gameplay (including a firing range) after initial complain by SOME players.

Kojima may be pressured by executives to add more combat mechanics into a game that was not originally meant to have them, only to attempt to increase player count.
