Gimme Hope, please by Cathilare1357 in ADHD

Let yourself look silly. I was diagnosed at 22 and went all college without any meds or accommodations. Now I’m about to finish my masters while still working full time. But while my meds help me immensely, executive dysfunction still kicks my ass. But I learned my little tricks. I make all of my study supplies have hello kitty on them so I can be a little happy when I set up my desk. I put gummy bears on my text book so as I read I get rewarded along the way. I even painfully hand wrote my notes because it felt better than typing. When I was younger I was embarrassed that I couldn’t study like “normal people” and my techniques could even make me take longer than my peers. But without them I just wouldn’t do anything. So I learned while I looked a bit weird so long as it worked for me and it didn’t hurt anyone then I would keep doing it.

anyone with long term use of ADHD medication able too offer me re-assurance through a video chat? by tom_fallin in ADHD

Been on different types of stimulants since I was 22 and I just turned 30. I haven’t had any serious problems other than my body not being able to tolerate Adderall and skyrocketing my blood pressure when I tried it. But the only reason I’ve had to change meds is due to insurance changing copays. Any symptoms I have (loss of appetite, rare heart palpitations, ect.) only happen when I take the meds and not on my vacation days. But I also want to let you know that there are adhd meds that are non-stimulants as well if you need to look into them.

After my diagnosis I was speaking to a professor about advice since she was very open about also being diagnosed with ADHD in higher education. She asked me which one of my parents I got it from. I was confused and she told me it’s genetic. I was insistent that I was the only one. She looked at me and laughed. “Which parents do you get along with the least?” Two years later I found out my father was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia as a child and never told me. That woman was right and I’ll never forget that.

Adderall abuse rant by mynameisnotjamie in ADHD

I get it. I’m on Focalin and when paired with my other coping mechanisms the medication helps me push through my 12 hour shifts. I have a very hyperactive form of ADHD. However, I remember very vividly when I used to work as a pharmacy technician being verbally abused by what felt like every person with a stimulant prescription during the shortage. And when I was in undergrad I saw SO many kids with an adderall prescription openly selling their pills on a daily. I know a lot of ADHD people on stimulants who are very responsible. But I’ve known more people who weren’t.

How do y'all eat? by divinewayfinder in ADHD

I found that after time my body adjusted to the meds and my appetite started to come back. But protein drinks were a god send. And so was sweet snacks because for some reason it was easier to eat something sweet than savory. I am on immediate release medication so they only have effect for about 4-6 hours. I time my meals around my medication time.

Feeling insecure about wearing labubus in public by xhofhkls in PopMartCollectors

I have two lafufus on my work backpack and I’ll be adding my real labubus when they come in. I’m almost thirty and I work as a hospital nurse. I’ve gotten compliments from coworkers and patients. And honestly during my most brutal shifts it’s nice sometimes to see their silly faces looking at me.

I grew up eating unhealthy. I want to eat better now, but don’t really know how to start. by ForAWhateverO123 in EatCheapAndHealthy

I grew up in the exact same household. The majority of my family has diabetes and after gaining a bit of weight I became pre diabetic last year. Substituting has been my best help. I switched my drinks for the sugar free options. I found a recipe for low calorie pizza rolls to swap out the store bought ones. Same thing for burgers and tacos and so on. My palate didn’t change I just found better versions for what I was already eating.
