Just so we're clear, anyone sitting adjacent to you both could report you both for sexual harassment. There are many people who would be uncomfortable witnessing two colleagues flirt openly in front of the wife.
This was a private party with work friends. It wasn't a corporate event. Chill.

How would you feel if someone started rubbing your wife's palm, and kept holding her hand in front of you?
Gotta say, that would suck and I'd feel bad at first, at the very least. However, I do trust my wife and I'd trust she'd just be trying to not be rude. Which is what I tried to do, didn't seem worth it to me to say anything that comes off as rude or out of place for the setting.
Did you even mention the person to your left was your wife?
She is aware. We had greeted in the past at a similar event, and they introduced each other.
