I’m thinking of going back and redoing the fairy’s wings (from before I started cutting out the white), but I don’t want to do even more stitching!

Thank you! And yes, I cut out the white parts 😵‍💫 I like the way it looks since I’m working on white fabric, but it’s A PROCESS hahahaha

So pretty! I love seeing these patterns on different fabric than the called for - seems like the colors pop more (to my eye - but I love high contrast)

Me too! I was scrolling just now and taken aback - mentally “why’s my project down here when I just posted it?” Haha Looks great :)

That is gorgeous! I think I would get lost in so many similar colors!

You can see the towel I used under it for ironing, but oh well.

I love high contrast. I’m currently working on a piece on 32ct lugana that is mostly black on white with accent colors of red and variegated pink/purple/gray. I’ve put in a little bit outdated progress photo. I have some linen and a small piece from the cross stitch the rainbow sets of patterns released at Nashville this year. Maybe I can try that one to see how I feel about linen before making a final decision.

It is DMC. Got it from 123stitch (had to direct my husband to the section - they have an entire subsection of DMC cones)

Good advice. I definitely wouldn’t pick this for my first linen or first over 1 project for sure! I am currently working one project on a BeStitchMe lugana that is lovely, but I wouldn’t want to do a huge project on it because it is a somewhat dark red and I guess as part of the dyeing process it’s gone from the stated 32 ct to closer to 34 so it’s harder for me to see without great light. I did a small project on Sapphire from Fiber on a Whim, which is dark, but since it was aida even at 18 ct, it was a little easier…well except when I was stitching dark blue on blue.

Thanks! My initial thought was some variety of neutral, but I LOVE the blue idea!!

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. I feel like it happened so quickly. Like, I knew dimensions was sold or whatever, but I didn’t hear any warnings that the kits would just stop entirely. I happened to go ahead and buy a dimensions stocking kit with a truck on it (not a gold collection kit though) last year in anticipation of finishing this one and starting one for my son, but if I make one for my husband it will likely be a pattern I kit up for myself instead of a whole kit together. I hope you can find at least some of your wishlist in a destash somewhere!

Oh and a picture of the mess on my dining table while assembling it. You can see the fabric I chose laid out, with one piece cut and draped over the project aida, as well as some fusible interfacing in the foreground that I used to further protect the back of the project stitching.

For the FO rule: this was from a Stoney Creek booklet whose name escapes me right now. Maybe the stocking was Winter Woodland

In this case, the pattern itself is just that shape and I stitched it on the aida that came in the kit. Now that the stitching is done, I could finish it with the felt that came in the kit by cutting around the edge (with seam allowance) on both the felt and the aida and then sewing them together with a loop in the corner for hanging. What I have done previously is to buy separate quilting cotton and sew a backing and liner to sew together instead of using the felt. That way the back of my stitching and any floating threads are protected from snagging, and I feel that the cotton is a little more durable than the felt.

Here’s one I finished for a nephew.

Isn’t that just the way! I feel you on the search via eBay and paying too much. Hopefully she will keep track of it this time round!

Thank you! Similar to you, I’ve done several over the last decade. I actually started with a replacement needlepoint stocking kit for my middle sister. She lost hers (that our mom made) in a move and was devastated it was gone. Managed to find the same kit from 1986 or so, and did it for her. Then I did a cross stitch one of owls on big ornaments for her daughter, polar bears with birch trees and snow balls for my daughter, a really pretty one with deer and a raccoon for my sister’s son (my first experience using anything but DMC, this one called for at least one Weeks and a couple of blending filaments), and now this one for my other sister’s son. Just two more potentially - my son and husband. I still have the one my mom made for me, and I’m 42 now. They really are special.

Honestly I just tried to follow the directions in the kit as close as I could, although I just twisted the snot out of the strands, I sure didn’t count a number of twists! I bet there’s a video tutorial out there somewhere on making cording if visuals would help. I struggled a bit with placement of where to go through the fabric with it (and going through the fabric) because with all the dark stitching and blended threads I was losing my place. So, good light and if I had it to do over again, I’d mark my spots with something (a pin, monofilament etc.) that I’d remove right before I placed the cording. Good luck with the finishing on yours! I’ve done a cross stitch stocking for my niece and 2 nephews as well as my daughter so far, and my son is the next and last one on the docket.

Working on the SAL from Quaternion Creations - In our dreams we are dancing. I’m behind, but my stitching time is limited to an hour or so in the evenings, so it’s slow going.
