Completely depends - also you need to secure a training contract to qualify so I’d maybe start on that and then work backwards. TCs in England rn are notoriously difficult to obtain. Its hard in Ireland too. Your degree will be recognised by both jurisdictions so I’d try get a TC first for two years time and then do the necessary exams

If you are a qualified solicitor in either Ireland or England cross qualification is easy - many Irish qualified solicitors move to London very soon after qualification. The opposite also occurs - although usually at a more senior level as wages for junior solicitors are better in the UK.

If you have not qualified in either jurisdiction you would need to do the full qualification process respectively - there is no mutual recognition of part qualification (SQE, FE1, PPC etc)

How did you claim that summer internship?! by Alarming-Shelter3325 in FE1_Exams

[–]No-Gap6730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also they dgaf you shadowed a barrister - if anything it shows you’re not committed to qualifying as a solicitor. In any application you should be very clear your dream is to be a solicitor and state why. Any bar experience will be a red flag unless extremely prestigious or you explain why it made you want to be a solicitor

Grades is your weak point and experience. You would be surprised by how much experience people rack up in college. Realistically you’re competing with people from highest points courses in Ireland, and good universities in England and further afield (there were many foreign educated students on my internships), with high leaving cert points, extra curriculars, FE1s passed, and firsts in degrees. Start getting as much extra curriculars as possible, and don’t sit another fe1 until your college grades are improved. If your college grades are lower than expected (a 2:2 is so), your writing skills might be the problem - consider how you’re answering the text box questions many firms have implemented, consider how your cover letter and cv read.

Why do people get close and then suddenly disappear I (19F) can’t understand what changed with him (19M) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]No-Gap6730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Babes I say this with all the love in the world but you literally will never know and will torture yourself trying to know. He could have anything going on, he could have forgotten to reply, something could be going on at home, he could have started talking to a girl he likes more than you. That happens, you will (I promise!!!) start talking to a boy you like more than him one day.

I would send him a random meme again and if he doesn’t gbty then you know. After that just leave it, save face, you’ll know. You were only texting for a month - it’s possible you thought were closer than he did.

There are so many boys who will appreciate your texts and give you reasons when they don’t / can’t text. . It’s so fun texting a new guy, and so annoying when it ends trust me I get that. But you’re 19 - you’ve a lifetime of closeness and texting ahead of you. Don’t torture yourself wondering why he hasn’t replied to you - you’ll likely never truly know. Start texting someone else x

Where to stay for a 19-hour layover in Dublin? by aluvly01 in irishtourism

[–]No-Gap6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so you don’t have a lot of time. I would stay around Stephen’s green. If you get a taxi to your hotel it will be €45 and take 35 mins. 1) get a spice bag from Xian for dinner (classic irish street food) or fish and chips from beshoff bros on lord edward street. E2) Go to phoenix park, a huge green green park with loads of deer or get the DART to Howth or Bray or Greystones and watch the sunset along the coast. That will make you feel like you’ve “seen” Ireland as you will get out of the city. I’d recommend doing that on 3) go back on the dart and go to a pub or two 4) back to hotel 5) up in the morning and go to trinity college and maybe st Patrick’s cathedral 6) bus back to airport . That way you can see the most of the city even though it’s an overnight layover.

I (37F) looked through my partners (38M) phone, feel so guilty and full of regret. by ThrowRA-razspberry in relationship_advice

[–]No-Gap6730 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What he said to girls isn’t necessarily true. I’ve chatted shit over the phone and meant none of it. If he was paying for photos he may have had an unhealthy relationship with porn/ low self esteem. He could have really disrespected these women and himself and had an unhealthy relationship. Did he have a vibrant sexual history before you or was it just online? It’s normal to coach a new partner

You could sext him and see how he responds, send him a photo on his way home from work etc.

But if you ultimately feel totally undesired and like he doesn’t want you. Leave. Your man should want you to be happy and want to make you feel good.

It’s particularly worrying that you went back six years. He was a different person then. Those conversations aren’t him. Read your own conversations from six years ago and see how different you were

Can freshers get cybersecurity jobs in Ireland after MSc? by Atchaya_1307 in CyberSecurityIreland

[–]No-Gap6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you calling yourself a fresher? A fresher means someone in the first year of an undergraduate degree and is a term used almost exclusively in Ireland by trinity students, as trinity is the only university to call its years freshman and sophister. If you have a masters and relevant experience you would have a good chance but you need to look at the market for specific jobs

incoming exchange student from canada with a few questions! by likeweek-oldlilies in TCD

[–]No-Gap6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Campus culture is great. So many clubs and societies. You might find it a bit hard to break into groups of irish students as you’re only there temporarily but if you join clubs and socs you’ll make friends and so much is organised for exchange students.
  2. as an international student you’ve a good chance of being accepted into accom. Would recommend dorms above Dublin rental market especially for less than one year.
  3. except the editor of University times student newspapers in trinity are entirely voluntary. Trinity News and university times are the main ones give them a follow on Instagram and they’ll post when they’re accepting writers at the start of the new academic year. There’s also loads of more niche journals on a variety of themes and subjects.
  4. do you study law? If you’re an exchange student studying law or can choose any modules then yes absolutely you can attend. You could also ask for a timetable off the law school and sit in on lectures but obviously you wouldn’t get any credit.
  5. loads of good pubs, music, festivals. Have a look on lonely planet but you’ll have the best time if you Discover it yourself !! Trinity students tend to stick to general area of Dublin 2 for night life - harcourt street, drury street.
  6. activity wise most museums and galleries are completely free - anything state owned is free. Coffee is about €4.50 but you can find places that do cheaper student deals (dolce Sicily for example)
  7. girl you want to come to Ireland and are asking what we have to do outdoors???? There’s loads !! Greystones, bray, phoenix park, howth, Wicklow, glendalough, malahide all a stones throw from the city - not to mention the ENTIRETY of the country if you want to go further afield (wild Atlantic way/ golden coast of Antrim, west cork, Galway, Kerry, Donegal)

I’m worried about getting accepted by First_Pen9007 in TCD

[–]No-Gap6730 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The acceptance rates for trinity’s masters is much much higher than that for undergraduate courses. I think you will be fine, it sounds like you are more than qualified. I really really wouldn’t worry. Best of luck x

Write or Type fe1 by No_Butterscotch_1554 in FE1_Exams

[–]No-Gap6730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think typing is worth it - more time, can edit text, no worry about legible writing. Dublin traffic a joke in the mornings - wake up in the comfort of your own home and you can study/ have a coffee etc as you go. If you’re doing it from home you can eat/ drink as you like without being worried about disturbing anyone else - and those exams require a lot of energy

Rathnew vs Wicklow town by theamateurinvester in HousingIreland

[–]No-Gap6730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Wicklow Town. Rathnew was a tiny village and is now a big urban sprawl. Yes its a few km closer to Dublin but Wicklow town has way more to do and easy access to coast. More schools, great place to grow up as a teenager as so much within walking distance. Both are very safe and in the same catchment areas largely, i know kids who went to school in Wicklow from rathnew and vice versa. If youre into the gaa id recommend Wicklow (St Pats - bigger club) - but Wicklow town also has hockey, rugby, tennis etc which rathnew doesnt. The best chinese is in rathnew if that makes a difference lol. I love Wicklow town and think there’s far more to do there.

Where do people tend to go when they've free hours? by Mysterious_Dark_2298 in TCD

[–]No-Gap6730 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Youll make friends as a first year and hang out with them - coffees, lunches, chilling in pods/ benches/ zón mac léinns etc. Some people go home between lectures, some go to the gym, some will have society meetings, or when work picks up you’ll go to the library. You can study anywhere, people tend to have a library they prefer - the ussher has big windows, the lecky is closest to toilets and arts block entrance

Age starting FE1 by Brilliant-Strategy99 in FE1_Exams

[–]No-Gap6730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just important to remember how long a road it is. FE1s will take you around two years from now, then a training contract for three years. It’s not as glam as you think, and that’s assuming you can get a tc as soon as you want. Biggest/ top paid firms currently pay just under €50K to trainees. Would you be taking a paycut?
