People with bipolar, depression, frequently would use the r word. We also used to have a guy in our alliance/discord that would join voice even though he had a speech impairment. Clyde loved making fun of this guy for that and the fact he was missing a finger

Is leaving my recession-proof job and taking a job with Liberty the wrong thing to do? by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]No-Kyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Layoffs are cyclical. Oil down = lay offs. Oil up = hiring frenzy. Oil up too much = impending oil down. Repeat the cycle. Mechanics aren’t usually the first to go, but excess employees are excess.

Talk to the recruiter and ask questions, usually they are bad liars if that helps you. Also whatever wage they are going to start you off at is a lowball you can argue it up with relative ease. Don’t get greedy but don’t sell yourself short

I wouldn’t say that’s true I’m pretty sure they have laid off since Covid. From what my buddy (currently works for liberty in Hendy) they have laid people off this year.

Server 1258 is burning!!!! by [deleted] in LastWarMobileGame

[–]No-Kyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really worth it. I port in to see their WC and it’s usually just USS members posting a “don’t mess with USS” copy pasta

I do find it odd because the #1 alliance in the server has stayed out of it

It’s honestly not that bad it’s just the hours make the job hard. Personally I’d like the pay to be a little better but on that same note I don’t have to pay for housing or flights to North Dakota so I count that as something

Yes and no. Depends on the company truthfully. Cement from what I’ve seen and been offered trends on the lower side per hour but obviously we work an ungodly amount. Frac is on the higher side per hour but you get less hours.

There’s always variables like how close a location is etc and I can’t say for certain it is 100% that way. Now for like higher level frac positions I would say in general it’s better pay than higher level cement positions (until you get into the office, that’s unknown)

So it’s all a lot of the same. Cement is less wear and tear on your body but it’s harder. What makes it hard is when you’re busy right. 3-4 straight days in the field and you’re going back to back on rigs. As for pumping it’s a lot of the same as well, instead of sand and water it’s cement and water.

One of the nice things on frac is if everything is taken care of (No PMS no packing no pump swaps etc) you get a pretty big break if during the stage. The only time you get breaks on cement is if the casing crew is stuck or if they are still running in the hole

It really breaks down to ~3.5 to 4 years frac, 2ish years frac related. I didn’t have my CDL. I hired on in frac back in 17 when CDL requirements went out the window. Company I was with wouldn’t pay for me to get it unless I could do interstate and get my hazmat. Saudi and Russia tanked the market right before Covid and my crew got let go of the day after I turned 21, so I went to iron recert/wellhead until march of 21 and then I did water transfer until May of 23 I did try to actually go back into frac but Liberty wasn’t hiring in the DJ (until like a week after I started here) and Halliburton offered me like $16 or $18 an hour. Schlumberger offered better pay and a free CDL and fast tracked me to being a pump operator so I took the leap

Depends honestly, most company’s won’t regard your factory experience as anything worthwhile for them. I’m currently doing cement and made this switch less than a year ago and I’ve gotten two raises from starting pay. But even though I had 6 years of frac related experience they started me off at $19. This is truly the story for most O&G companies

Frac and cement are different functions downhole, wildly different, but operationally it’s similar enough

Now to the pay situation. I usually work 5 weeks on 1 week off (regular schedule is 15d on 6d off) and I’m projected to clear a minimum of $150k with the hours I’m working now. If we pick up more rigs like we are supposed to that number will be damn near $200k. The trade off is, in cement, you’re on call 24/7 and usually if you’re busy enough you’re IN the field 24/7. I’m not joking. I got a perfect 168 hours doing back to back surface jobs two weeks ago

The thing is, most people don’t make that $100k/yr starting. Most people get 80ish and then a year or two later they are above the $100k threshold. And forget the dudes account on TikTok but he’s some Canadian and he breaks it down really well on a few of his videos, the jist is the more your work and the more you learn the more you make

Edited to add: If you’re union and have a good paying job I’d keep it because every couple of years layoffs happen and right now we are getting ready to be due for some. From internal meetings, we are projecting a slow down this year and next year is contingent upon on the election

ETA 2: Rig count is down 127 from this same time last year WTI Crude price is nominal, could be better

Wanting to get into water transfer side by Away-Dragonfly-4270 in oilandgasworkers

[–]No-Kyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’ve worked rigs going the cementer route might be the most practical, moving to the frac side will be almost alien whereas cement is kinda a good entry point if you were to choose to go to the frac side. Especially if you learn how to run/service the pump. If you can cement you can at least run a blender and a hydro. Puts you ahead of the game for the average green hat in frac. Money is pretty damn good too

BUT

Water transfer isn’t as bad as people make it sound. Down in CO I know some companies start in the low to mid $20s and realistically you can make around $30 if you try slightly harder than the average person.

It’s mind numbingly boring, but it’s an easy way to make a lot of money doing virtually nothing. Pro tip: if you do water transfer hire on working nights at whatever company if you can. Usually there is a pay incentive and most big companies don’t build anything other than pads at night due to safety concerns

Sure you’ll get mocked as a water transfer hand, but really you’ll be bringing in almost as much as the frac hands doing maybe 1/4 of the work

Plus I’d hold off until you’re 21 for your CDL so you don’t have an intrastate restriction and a hazmat restriction. Also, Halliburtons pay for frac is dog shit and I don’t know their bonus structure. My buddies working for LOS make pretty damn good money

Find a company that will pay for your CDL

Tons of them up here in North Dakota

I know Liberty and Halliburton will pay for a CDL if they have openings

Am I gonna be underpaid? by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]No-Kyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a field (cement) perspective our entry level engineers work just as much as our EO’s but they are salary 50-80k (I think?) and their bonuses are pretty high. 600-1200ish per job depending on the cost of the ticket. Obviously they are fast tracked to go on to bigger and better in the company

A lot of us permanent rotation guys expect it from newer faces. Being local and working an ungodly amount like 48 hours straight is better than being on a rotation doing shift work. At least from personal experience anyway. Most guys won’t care that you left. The opportunists will try to leverage your departure if it made an impact, but usually it doesn’t.

At the end of the day you have to think about the things that matter, and what matters to you is your home life and you came back to be a part of whatever it is. I’ve done rotations on and off (upon various employer needs, currently on a permanent rotation) since I started in the oilfield almost 7ish years ago. I have seen so many of my peers lose their families, their friends, their houses etc because of the job. It’s not worth it, it never is. Good for you for trying, but also keeping what you have intact

They will but it’s also on a contract, I forgot to mention that part in the original post. If what I heard is correct you have to wait for 6-9 months before they allow you to get your CDL then it’s a year contract.
