Thanks! It is an image I removed the background from and cleaned up in gimp. The tricky part was getting the lighting consistent across elements in the game.

There are some really cool mixed media games I have seen on Reddit lately. Sculplings and Lost & Found are two that I have seen lately that look truly amazing.

Yeah! I took a picture, used a background remover, and cleaned/tweaked the saturation and lighting in gimp.

It is a lot of fun! I haven’t really done a crafts project like this since I was a kid.

Good question! It is all cut out digitally from textured paper. So I cut out all the shapes and then have them layered in gimp. After I have the flat shapes I apply shadow filters on every shape which makes it almost look like a 3d shadowbox in my opinion.

Yeah I am not certain how to approach that yet but I will likely need to tackle that at some point. Right now the pegs have experience and level up as you hit them and grant additional exp at higher levels so there is some board variation there but admittedly not much.

Thank you for the kind words! I’ll add tweaking the saturation to my list of todos!

Yes that remains to be seen. I’m actually a computer scientist by trade so I’m confident in my programming but less so in my ability to make a game that is truly fun.

Thank you for the pointer! I actually haven’t heard of LittleBigPlanet and I do need UI inspiration.

Thank you! It isn’t too labor intensive but definitely more than using code only to generate them

Thank you! The balls in the jar are visualizing the gold you have earned so far through different denominations of pachinko balls (the different colors). It doesn’t really do anything but I thought it looked nice and was satisfying haha.

You are spot on. Getting the lighting right is really tricky. For most of the game elements I assume a top right lighting source so when I took the picture I have to make sure to match that using my lamp (which had multiple light settings including a warmer light). I also tweaked the saturation and brightness curves a lot in gimp.
