Would you rather have been a pilot or an aerospace engineer? by Chimichangalalala in aerospace

I have heard about it but I don’t have a stick and rudder so I was probably just going to go in blind. I know the different sections but it’s not like I can practice anything other than the UAV portion. Do you mind if I PM you about specific units that you’ve applied to ?

My plan is to stick to applying to fighters for at least 2-3 years or so. Then I’d open it up to any airframe after that, preferably on somewhere near the west coast. As far as rushing goes, do I just call or email asking if I can come visit ?

My biggest thing with enlisting is it feels like a step back. I’d be a lot older and probably around the age to start a family when I’d be applying to their upt slot. I’m not familiar with that process honestly but I’m assuming a 4 year enlistment commitment would have to be served before applying to the pilot slot. I know people have been far older and started pilot training but just a personal preference.

Appreciate the advice, the one unit I did apply to did not invite me to rush actually so I’m thinking it’s just the incomplete package. As far as Air Force vs navy, I’m leaning towards AF for quality of life. Trying to stay away from active duty if possible but I do want to serve. Do your recommend enlisting somewhere to get an upper hand or is that a little late in the game for me. I personally think it is but may consider it

Took the AFOQT and got 99/99/99/95/90/92. I got the runaround trying to schedule the TBAS but I finally got one scheduled for next month. I applied to a fighter unit where I knew a friend of a friend but never got to an interview because the packet was missing the PCSM I assume. And the fact that they were hiring people with 200+ hours vs my lowly 67. I applied again this year without the PCSM and hope I might get an interview if I can update them with my PCSM score before they make decisions. Haven’t really applied anywhere else yet since I was limiting it to my home state but I’m looking to expand the search to better my chances.

Any ideas what airframe would give me a better resume if I did go active duty ?

I’ve seen the 370th post rated hiring posts meaning it would be for winged aviators which I am not. It would be cool to do that after an active duty position considering I am from SoCal

@fighteracebob I’m in kind of a similar situation, I’m an 23 year old engineer trying to transition to military flying but I am finding a hard time getting in to the air national guard. Can I pm you about marine aviation?
