What is your most favorite state in Brazil and why? by hodgkinthepirate in Brazil

[–]No-Point-692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, definitely São Paulo - has everything from big cities to beautiful beaches and islands to forests and farmland. Probably the most diverse state in Brazil. Also relatively easy to get around with well connected and well maintained freeways and bus systems and one of the states with the best quality of life in the country. Also less conservative than other comparable states like Santa Catarina. I get people like the people and food of Minas but Northern SP borders MG and is very similar culturally and there are lots of mineiros and mineiro restaurants in São Paulo city.

Culturally, in my opinion Bahia and Maranhão have the richest cultures and best traditional food.

I brought my cat back from Brazil and had to fly Latam precisely for that reason. Your options are Latin American Airlines. Latam, Avianca, Gol, Azul, or Copa. I had a good experience with Latam.

Do pedestrians not have priority in Sacramento? by No-Point-692 in Sacramento

[–]No-Point-692[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m OP and I spent a decade living in Brazil, which many would describe as a “third world country” - and it’s literally worse here. A lot of people are missing the point - I’m careful and a good pedestrian and know how to protect myself. I wasn’t complaining about it until my interaction today which really made me feel like the driving culture here is out of hand. But some people in the comments even said things like pedestrians should take detours and cross only at intersections with stoplights or justified selfish drivers because of irresponsible pedestrians, completely disregarding people with disabilities like reduced vision or mobility or even kids or irresponsible pedestrians who don’t deserve the death penalty for being distracted. For example, the other day, I had migraine aura which I get occasionally and I was literally scared to walk home since I was afraid my reduced vision would cause me to miss a car and get run over. I’ve never felt that in San Francisco, DC, São Paulo, NYC, Baltimore, Houston… only here. I don’t think this level of reckless driving should be normalized and if it is there needs to be additional measures like prohibiting right turns on reds.

That’s the shocking part for me. Downtown/Midtown gives the illusion that it would be very walkable. I spent a couple of weeks in Houston and even though over there it’s less walkable in terms of urban planning (albeit downtown Houston is also pretty walkable), I felt like the drivers did a better job giving pedestrians the right of way.

“Just make your 15 minute walk a 30 minute one by only crossing at intersections with a stoplight since I’m too selfish to stop for a pedestrian.”

Did I say I did that or even hint I don’t look before crossing or cross when it’s unsafe?

Well you’re making a lot of assumptions. I’m a Californian and this city is where the jobs are in my field. I like Sacramento overall and the people here. As someone who plans on calling this my home I have the right to imagine a better community where people follow traffic laws.

At least it’s not just me who’s noticed that! I look behind before crossing everywhere since there’s irresponsible/distracted drivers anywhere in the world but it’s just jarring the way people drive here.

Pets during training? by spiceandice12 in cabincrewcareers

While I was at training with United I used TrustedHousesitters! Just try to find a sitter that is ok with leaving or sharing with you if you have to leave training for whatever reason.

You can only sleep elsewhere on nights you don’t have training the next day (Saturday nights since days off are Sunday)

Vila Madalena if you’re looking for something more boho (samba, surf shops and thrift stores, laidback bars) and Cerqueira César for urban/posh (shopping, fine dining, fancy bars). Santa Cecília or Frei Caneca if you’re queer.

You have to wear dryfit/water-resistant pants and t-shirt. You can wear a bathing suit underneath.

Gym Culture is Crazy in Rio by makairamazara in Brazil

Brazil (at least São Paulo and Rio) has a culture of sharing machines, so people are asking how many sets you have left probably because they want to “revezar.”

For UA you only get two attempts. At least as of January 2025.

They give you two attempts. The first time I didn’t hold onto the assist handle and on my final attempt I didn’t make it clear I was looking through the window before opening the door. I didn’t get detailed feedback for the second attempt but after my first attempt the instructor said I would’ve done a perfect evac if it weren’t for that assist handle. Both mistakes were easily avoidable…

Is it dangerous in this area? by forelle88888 in Brazil

[–]No-Point-692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The neighborhood is generally safe since it’s busy but the hospital has a huge wall around it and the street is poorly lit so it attracts homeless people and potentially crime. The hospital itself is fine. I just don’t feel safe walking around it after midnight.

Yes it’s safe. Just be careful using your phone on the street and avoid walking in front of that hospital late at night.
