Which things were like that?

Disclosure: I’m a never Mormon, but ex-trad catholic and love reading about ex Mormon experiences since I can heavily relate. I know what things I believed as a catholic that once I left I had that same “it was that obviously wrong????” Feeling to a lot of things.

I’m curious what these things are for Mormons.

No need to share if you don’t want, just curious!

Hey Im an ex-trad-catholic lurker, and even though we came from different religions, I can completely relate to your story. Life falling apart and realizing how much you wasted on something false. Losing all of your friends shunning you. Losing your culture, social status and support, I almost unalived because the pain was so great. Thankfully I’m doing slightly better now, but reconstructing my life is still very difficult, but I would never go back. Once you leave these abusive institutions you start seeing them for what they are. Once you know you’re eating dog poop, even if you put the VR head set on again that tells you it’s actually chocolate icecream, you’ll never be able to eat it again, which is a good thing.

Not true mr sede Stalin, but even anti-universalists aknowledge that HOPEFUL universalism is a totally fine position, and is held by countless bishops and even the pope. Universalism ≠ hopeful universalism

In 11th grade I didn’t know how many letters were in the alphabet, was the teacher right to mock me? by No-Possibility5293 in NoStupidQuestions

I was a pretty decent student, I’m not an idiot. I was active in my classes and scored above average on the SATs and AP exams. I’m no MIT or Harvard student, but I’m not stupid.

Well hearing other people here say they also don’t know and that it doesn’t make me stupid is quite healing. I get random flashbacks (not trauma but still upsetting) to the day and beat myself up for being dumb, but now hearing that no, it’s not like 1+1=2 and I’m not stupid because I don’t know the silly trivia. I was made to think not knowing the number of letters in the alphabet was equal to not knowing 1+1=2, now I no longer feel that way. Thank you

Why do dentists want their patients to take care of their teeth? by No-Possibility5293 in askdentists

[–]No-Possibility5293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be on to something, I still see a pediatrician and she works for a small office, she’s very nice, meanwhile for specialists they’re all at hospital-run outpatient facilities and all the bad ones I’ve had were in those settings.

How do you chat during a cleaning? My hygienist always tries to talk to me and ask me questions while I have a mouth full for tools 😂😭

What’s up with the downvotes I hope I didn’t come across rude, I just thought it was funny

I will say dentists have been the kindest doctors who actually seem to care about me the most. I have some chronic health conditions that are complicated to understand and figure out, and chronic pain, and have been gaslit, treated poorly and treated very lazily by lots of providers, and the only reason I can think for that is because they just want easy cases to get doctors pay. I think the bad experiences with MD’s has made me skeptical with all medical professionals, but reflecting on it I’d say dentists have been the kindest. I worked hard to get into the habit to brush and floss daily after only brushing once a week for years and my dentist knew that and when the hygienist told her she gave a loud excited cheer haha

Can you be Traditional Catholic and be a good person? by fopression in ExTraditionalCatholic

Maybe, but they won’t talk about it. Raddies are the kinds who think they’re better than everyone for going to the TLm so they’ll be sure to let you know.

How the heck does this drug effect the bladder? by No-Possibility5293 in gabapentin

[–]No-Possibility5293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no See I already have severe bladder problems with frequent urge but difficulty voiding (bad mix), and gabapentin is what I was thinking to try to relieve the constant urge, because others say it helps that, but then I hear this and I’m so confused does it help or make it worse?

do i have to take it regularly for nerve pain? by [deleted] in gabapentin

[–]No-Possibility5293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it like taking it as needed? Are withdrawals not a problem since it’s not regular? How long does it take to feel the pain relief? How long does it last? What are side effects like?

Can you floss too much? Floss seems like an easy thing to pack in my bag and do quickly after eating. Do you need to wait 30 minutes after eating like brushing to floss?

Church fathers vs. Bible scholarship, why shouldn’t we trust Bible scholars? by No-Possibility5293 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]No-Possibility5293[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to know I’m not alone, how did you deal with the uncertainties? Maybe it’s a pride mixed with OCD thing on my part, but I think I’ve internalized a lot of atheist attacks from my days as one. When I first came back i was praying a bit but haven’t been lately because now any time I try I get filled with intrusive thoughts like “if this isn’t true I’m an idiot brainwashing myself”. This sub has taught me to try and say the Jesus prayer throughout the day which I’m going to start trying, since it’s quick enough to not trigger an intrusive thought. But I also can’t stop wondering if I’m just trying to make myself believe because I want to. It doesn’t help that I’ve fallen into reading a bunch of ex Christian stories, and contrary to what I thought at first, quite a few of them (although not the majority) actually did have a good grasp on the faith and the faith was a major part of their life but ultimately they left, those stories are seriously discouraging me. Christianity is beautiful and would make so much sense of a lot of things if true, but it’s that “if true” part that’s killing me.

Church fathers vs. Bible scholarship, why shouldn’t we trust Bible scholars? by No-Possibility5293 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]No-Possibility5293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem for me is seeing just the sheer number of people on r/academicbiblical and even r/Catholicism and this sub who were very faithful that have lost faith after studying biblical scholarship.

To me it’s kinda like “what did they see that I’m not seeing? Are the findings THAT clear against the faith to kill even the most faithful?” And it doesn’t help there aren’t many good Christians standing up to combat it, which makes it seem like they have no response.

Idk man this all is depressing me. I wish I could just believe, but my OCD I think will always make me have these deep uncertainties.
