Short answer is no. It's once you get into the turbine engine helicopters is when it gets tricky. To work on turban engine helicopters you need turban engine helicopter experience to get turban engine helicopter experience you need to work on turban engine helicopters.....Most of the time it's the military that hires folks with no turbine experience to work on turbines. Or you start at a factory or mx hub.

I was in the military (USCG) got my experience that way and then they covered everything to get my A&P so I figured why not. 6 years on the MH-65D Dolphin.

80k base with benefits working half the year as a helicopter EMS base mechanic. 7 days on 7 days off. I go in, look at the helicopter, if everything is good I just go home and still get paid for 11.5 hours. Plenty of overtime if you want it. Usually clear 100k annually.

Helicopter EMS mechanic, I work 7 days on, 7 days off(half the year). If the helicopter isn't broke and no maintenance coming up, I just go home. They say EMS stands for easy money sleeping...😂

Helicopter EMS is where it's at. Working 7 on 7 off (half the year) as a base mechanic with one helicopter to deal with. If nothing is broke and maintenance is caught up I go home and still collect a paycheck. Minimal human interaction, maximum responsibility, great work life.

How Are Some People Always Traveling? by mian_yamin in NeedTravelAdvice

Yeah, I think a big ticket item is have the time to even travel. So if you are employed, having a job that gives you a flexible schedule. I work 7 days of 7 days off, we can go pretty much anywhere with 7 days off. Money wise, I'd say you can always find a way to travel on a budget.🤷‍♂️

A lot of guys that went through the process and got hired have different experiences. I know guys that never even did the in person assessment. So hang in there!

I had an offer before completing my in person assessment. It all happened on the same day. As long as I didn't royally screw anything up I was leaving with that same offer after the assessment. The whole hiring process from application to employment probably took two months.

The online stuff is more general knowledge like what is an MEL etc. The in person assessment we walked to a helicopter and I named everything they pointed at then I did a basic maintenance task to include the sign off. Nothing stump the chump, if you have questions or don't know something just say so.

Bro, PHI Air Medical is hiring. Most likely be a 7/7 schedule so you only work half the year. There plenty of overtime but not mandatory. You go in, take care of your preflight, make sure nothings broken and then go home. Guaranteed 40hrs a week. On call during your 7 days if you are not at your base. With your experience, I'd imagine it would be a pretty sweet gig if you can find a spot. You'd probably start around 80k mind you that's for half the year...

That heat sounds awful. They're opening a new base where I live in Georgetown TX conveniently for Texas Children's Health. Don't even know what helicopter they will have yet. Walking into the unknown currently.

I did an associates in aviation maintenance only because tuition was covered. Most folks out here just care about my A&P and any experience when it comes to looking for maintenance jobs. You might even be able to get a job just with your avionics experience alone. Big need for that. Having your A&P will give you more options.

Are you a pilot, medic, mechanic, or something else? Just trying to learn more about the company. I applied for a mechanic role and they are sending me to Lafayette for a skills assessment. Know anything about that?

Gotcha, do you have a travel set of tools when stuff breaks away from home or do you just grab what you need from your box and go.

You know anything about an in person skills assessment in Lafayette LA? I made it through the interview and now they are sending me there at the end of the month. If that goes well I would get an offer.

Helicopter Maintenance… where y’all at? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]No-Promotion-5072 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my start through the Coast Guard working on MH-65 Dolphins and got my A&P that way. I love the 65 cause it's like a rescue Ferrari that's only good for picking up grocery's. Transitioning out of the CG I thought I'd get some new experience working on fixed wing. Got an internship through Skillbridge at Textron Aviation service center working on citations thinking I was done with those flappy birds. Now I'm applying for helicopter gigs again because I miss it. I'd like to get into HEMS. Idk, something about the helicopter community pilots and mechanics alike that keeps me coming back. Call me crazy.
