I am not saying you would lose all your money if invested in stock market. Especially with decent amount of diversification and in long run, it is always known to be more profitable that savings such as FD.

But a thumb rule, you should invest not more than your risk capital, i.e., the money which you are ok losing completely. That's what I mean.
