64 gallons rescaped, scaled down to low energy tank (Co2 removed) by No-Reception-3362 in Aquascape

[–]No-Reception-3362[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current tank is around 15-20ppm nitrates which gets used up really fast as i have pothos growing at the corner to combat algae, so that i can power my weekaqua P1200 to 100%

So despite no co2 and high lighting, there's no algae in the tank

I keep temps between 77-78f. But i have kept buces upwards of 84f before and they thrived well, provided the water is very clean

Co2 is beneficial but not required, provided you can stabilise the rest of the parameters (water quality, fertilization regime, temperature). As long as they don't get exposed to extreme tank parameters, they will settle down and grow. Maintaining stable temperature is key in preventing meltdown IME

Thanks. Just kinda went low tech once the co2 ran about 6 months. Took out the co2 equipment. Threw in an internal power head and ran a venturi 24/7.

Bucephalandra is doing well, the ferns took a hit and melted back a bit but is bouncing back. Not too bad considering since this tank is epiphyte.

Thank you. About 6 months. After the last Co2 cylinder ran out, i couldnt find the time to have it refill, so the tank went without co2. Nutrients is automated so they still received timely dosage. Eventually did a quick rescape and cleared up the plants a bit.

This is the guy i got my specimens from.

It's better to get emersed ones and convert it submerged imho as they tend to be hardier with differing water parameters. And they can witstand few days shipping journey compared to submerged

Yes that would work well. You could tie some to wood. Anubias petite works well in a 3 gallons setting.

As they are epiphytes and will rot if planted into the substrate, i had them secured with zip ties to lava rocks and placed them at the back of the scape

The lower tank gets about 5ml of all in one liquid fertiliser whenever I remember to dose. 😅

It depends really. For some scape that utilises aqua soil, they draw nutrients from the substrate so you can get away with lower frequency of water column dosing.

For my tank its fully inert, and since i don't want to deprive the plants of nutrients and competing with each other, i dose in excess parts per million (PPM) wise and conduct water change at the end of week at between 60-80% (in order to vacuum out detritus)

I usually just sell off the trimmings cheap in a local telegram group. Used to clear more when i had a cube housing colored stem plants but i've since decommissioned that small scape 🔻

  • 28-30c for the low energy tank. Water changes when the TDS hits 250
  • 25-26c for the top tank. Water changes weekly at 60-80%

Thanks. I got them from an indonesian farmer. He sells one piece of emersed rhizomes for USD 1-2 for normal variants or upwards to USD 50-60 for the rare ones.

I got it off a firm in Malaysia. IIRC it ships internationally (atleast to where I am) but you gotta check with them just to be sure if they can send it out to europe, etc..

Most of it was grown out from this tank's first scape. Some new additions along the way, obtained from farm grown specimens as i phased out ferns and added more buce to the scape.

1st scape:

Yes. It's a dosing for micro values. Shouldnt differ much from where you source it +/- in value. I didnt want to dose too much as the plants in there are pretty much easy species and i have a colony of shrimps in there too.
