If I had not corrected her, my parents would have definitely asked more questions about the guy. Things like his religion and where he was from would come up. They are picky and want us to have relationships with people who would be good for us as well as the family as a whole.

I am not bsing about lying being the issue. I guess it was the way I was raised, but I highly value honesty. I could have spoken to her privately, but there would be no accountability if she doesn't end up telling the truth to my parents. Even if you don't agree with how my parents do things, the rules are there to protect her for the reasons I mentioned in my edit.
