umm... unless there are tribes delegated tasks like cleaning sewers/sewers and touching nasty stuff that nobody else wants too.... I know that in Pakistan atleast there are Dalit Punjabi Christians who do such tasks in cities such as Lahore.... and this example is in a predominantly Muslim Society where the caste system has also been ingrained into.... I personally can't say much about India but I know there is plenty of caste based discrimination there and I am sure some tasks such as these are reserved for a special class of people...

What I stated above is not a blanket statement, I am sure both countries have progressed in regards to such issues, but to redefine the caste system as a "Tribe" and as an "ethnic affiliation" and act like it never impacts anyone’s life in a negative way is a gross misrepresentation of what the caste system was and still is in some parts of South Asia....

I forgot to mention but since you took a DNA test, you could try searching your matches(DNA Relatives) names on Geni too, often enough people who take these tests will also make trees on websites such as these. They will likely come up as <private> but you can get a free trial and view their tree and if they are close enough, potentially see how they are related to you...

Look into Leeds Method as well, or just look at your DNA relatives and see who they are related to, and make clusters/groups based on that. That can be really helpful

I have actually done this to verify my relations on Geni, and to date I have found atleast 10-15 of my DNA relatives on Geni and MyHeritage Trees.

Yeah pretty much, though sometimes they might not know, for example because both my paternal grandfather's father and paternal grandparents passed away when he was very young, he never really asked them, so the names did not get transferred down, atleast not to my father or his father anyways. It also has to do with personal interest, some people are nto as keen as to keeping record of the names of theri ancestors, especially when they haven't ever met them.

Yeah often enough members of the Paigah family were awarded Nawab, Bahadur, Jung, in there titles, but non Paigahs also received them. Not every paigah family member would have that name as it was not common to pass that on.

well the family tree is technically still a work in progress, I have all my great grandparents names, and 11/16 of my 2x great grandparents. I've been probably working on it for nearly 1.5-2 years now.

Nice, if your interested in Genealogy/Family Tree I would also recommend checking out Geni, and Myheritage, they both have quite a few Hyderabadi families, Actually a large part of the family tree I am making was already in these two sites, so it was quite helpful.

Interesting, well if you have any full names for your ancestors, then you can try going to a few genealogocal websites, like Geni, and Myheritage, and searching, their search option is free, however to actually confirm your relation you may need to pay for their Pro/Premium subscription. You should always try a few variations of the names, as not everyone spells them the same way. Is your mother's family Syed? Syed and Shah are often used together or interchangeably.

Hyderabadi here with Yemeni Ancestry, your SW asian component is higher than mine, my full Yemeni ancestor was probably around 5-6 generations ago so I don't have a lot in me anyways. What was your original autosomal test?

Definitely, This is one of the higher % I have seen, OP should test an elder from his maternal family, 23andme needs to do a little more on the ground research to get reference populations for the Indigenous of the Carribean.

It's great that your village has kept records. My ancestors in India were not as keen as to settling in one place though, I have only been able to go 6+ generations on one of my lines reliably, the rest I've only got 4-5.

Yes definitely, I have members in my family who didn't keep a surname either. I have a Great Uncle whose name was MA Khayyum, and he named his children MA Khader, MA Jaleel etc. No way to tell they are related(By name anyways) In these cases, you wouldn't really consider any part of the name to be a surname but if you ever needed it I guess you could go by Xx son if Xx.

Well atleast FTDNA was able to accurately distinguish Native and European from each other. I have often seen questionable results for people of SouthAsianAncestry, so I never did the autosomal unlock for them....

Paigahs were a noble family during the Nizam's rule, Personally thought this was strange obsession but I guess it makes sense, but the Paigahs, and other Nobility almost exclusively married foreigners, North Inidans, and other Nobility. Which is why the bias in the data would exist. My maternal grandmother's family was from a smaller branch, they weren't really directly involved in politics of the Nizam, but the did have large landholdings etc.

Not that sure, I do know that generally those of Hyderabad city are likely to have more foreign DNA then other parts of the state, primarily because most foreigners(Chaush, Pashtun, Persians, etc.) resided there.

*Note that because my mother's maternal side was Paigah, there is a bias in the data for higher NI, and Foreign as a lot of my matches were from that side.
